1st Gen Satoshi HELP NEEDED

The two tabs at the top of the grille assembly prevent me from doing a true deep dish style grille. However, I'm concerned about removing them because it may affect/effect the stability of the grille assembly once installed; then again, the remaining outer tabs (see "Not to be removed" in photos) may provide enough stability...I dunno.

If anyone else has done this, please advise me of how you resolved this problem...thanks in advance!

premature bump (yeah...it's been a little over an hour, and I know better; but, I'm itching to get this thing going, and I have to decide whether to cut the tabs before I can 'move on' with the build).

 

just cut it, whats the worst that can happen?

 

i kept all mine. I'll see if I have pics. I did hide them somewhat

 

I don't see how it would affect the stability of the grille. For the Satoshi or even a billet on the 2nd gens we have to cut everything out of the grille and it doesn't bother it. I think ya should go ahead and chop em.

 

I cut them at an angle to hide them a little more. Remember wwhen your standing in front of the truck your taller than the grille. You don't see those 2. I have one pic so you can see what I did. I'll post a finshed pic and you can decide for yourself if its to noticable.

Yeah, I've reviewed your build...it should be one of the links below this thread. The issue is, I'm making mine a "deep dish" style grille: The grille material will sit behind those tabs/posts, and if I don't remove them, they'll be an eyesore.

I'm leaning this way; the "Not to be removed" could provide enough stability to keep the thing from being flimsy once mounted. I can't see any other way to complete it in a "deep dish" style.

you can see in this one better bc of the sunlight. If you look close you can see I cut the mesh around the support.

 

To be clear, I'm adding 1"-1.5" to the "dish" by using fiberglass. Yours doesn't look bad at all...maybe those tabs aren't the eyesore I thought they'd be...I just want mine to be as clean as possible.

 

I would recomend keeping them. Otherwise the line where the hood meets the grille may look retarded. The grill won't stick out like it should and the hood will form a lip overtop of the grille. Also you can always go back and cut them off later. gluing them back on is not as much of an option.

 

oh I see. . Like I said. from a standing position the angle at which you look at the grille hides them. But if you want them to be gone I would recomend fabing some sort of spacer between the back of the grille and the hood support. (so if someone leans on the grille it doesn't give and/or crack.
