Gotta push it hard enough to break so you know how hard you can push it. Find the breaking point and back off just a little.

I’m not disagreeing that the JLs look bad, but they have had (and continually have) so many recalls compared to the Tacoma. Once they get all the kinks worked out, it has the potential to be a good vehicle.

Curious, I bought a Baofeng radio for our last trip and now my sister bought me one for Christmas.

Should I keep two or return for something else?

I'd keep it just in case someone in your group forgot there's on a trail.

My buddy just got a 2018 access cab and is looking for some side steps. What years will fit it?

I've read that at least on the double cabs, the bolts in the cab match up between 2nd and 3rd gens. I'm not sure about the access cabs though

The JL's were redesigned to address all the issues that the JK's had. I'm not aware of any issues on any of the JL's. Can't remember which model the frame issue around the sway bar was.

I wouldn't even have an issue with a non Rubicon with the Dana 30's. Havnt heard many issues with them. I think you can get fully loaded rock jock 60's for $5k that swap right in.

Is Jeep still using the D44 axle? Back when i had my TJ, the D44 was the more desirable rear axle, and the D35 was considered weak and prone to failure with larger tires unless you upgraded to higher spline chromoly shafts.

Any of you guys have a hard top camper and a RTT on top? Been thinking about getting a camper shell lately so I can do some surf trips and keep all my boards and stuff Locked up and dry in the bed. Not sure if al the tops are strong enough to keep a RTT up top or if they need be reinforced? I was thinking of going perhaps with the overland edition from ARE as I think it’s already got reinforced walls

You won’t have a problem with a shell supporting the weight.

Rubicon are d44. I think the others are d30.

That’s the reason I got rid of my camper shell when I wanted to get an RTT, the added weight. I did not want to reinforce the shell and I could not find a low profile mounting design I liked for a reasonable price. Now, if you go with a hard shell RTT, you shouldn’t have a problem with the weight and more like likely wouldn’t have to reinforce the shell.

    Coolio!
Dano says it’s not a problem, you say it is possibly? A problem. I haven’t done any research at all so I’m not doubting either of you. Just curious why you think it would affect it? I already have a RTT (tuff stuff or whatever knockoff brand it is) and I think it’s maybe 100 pounds? I won’t be doing any real wheeling with the RTT on and I probably won’t keep it mounted 100% of the time either. For racks I’ll probably just go with a Yakima or Thule or something like that

Hardshells normally weigh more than standard clamshells...also, jump into the RTT thread and you’ll find a lot of other guys run RTTs on campershells. It’s a pretty common question in that thread.

Old pics...like two RTTs ago or something. :notsure:
