Third brake lights are important to differentiate different types of light set ups. Some people's taillights are all red and/or they flash with turnsignals. Yes, people should be able to read two taillights lighting up for braking, but there is a legitimate reason why high mounts are required for all vehicles.

Exactly. I don't blame inspectors for failing even trivial things; they have to take the test, get certified, and agree to follow all state police-set inspection guidelines or they can be at blame.

Definitely don't blame them for not touching an aftermarket accessory they aren't familiar with.

Wrong...of the 58 counties 34 require smog inspections with another 6 requiring them only in certain Zip Codes. That leaves 18 counties with no inspections.

I'm just wondering how long the inspection takes, that you took a shuttle home. When I get my vehicles inspected I pull up to the line, give the inspector my keys as I go inside and get a cup of coffee. About halfway through the coffee he comes back in, gets my license number and proof of Insurance and registration, and my money. He then goes back out and puts the sticker on and I am on my way having just finished the cup of coffee.
As far as the 3rd brake light goes, if the vehicle was manufactured with the light, it needs to visible and functional and you are subject to a citation just as if any other light was not functioning.

Virginia is awesome, Atlantic Ocean, Chesapeake Bay & Blue Ridge Mtns. The third brake light is there to help avoid rear ended collisions. Don’t cover it up.

I used to live in California. Now I pay 20 bucks a year on my vehicles flat rate. And run dark tint on my front 2 . Oh its illegal. They just dont care in the woods around ATL (actually a pretty small city). As long as it's not as piece .

yet... if you guys keep mentioning all the things CALIFORNIA does not do they will have their little trolls make up new laws in no time and soon enough we’ll be doing smog annually, inspections monthly and pay even more road taxes and weight fees to cover the cost of the “crazy train”.

Not sure if you mistook trolls for tolls. We have toll roads here in oc too. I was speaking of trolls= liberal law makers trying to find ways to make us give up our gas and, god forbid, diesel trucks. When they implemented smog checking diesel trucks I got so pissed I sold mine- I fell right into their trap. Few years later Ended up buying an even older diesel with absolutely no emissions equipment (100% legal) and I will spend my life’s saving to keep it running and in the road. And no it does not billow out black smoke but it runs on the most vile and evil of all fuels.

They usta do appointments for inspections and I would wait, but now it’s first come first serve they estimated 3-4 hours and it was busy, plus it’s near the holidays and end of the month.

The advisor felt bad that I had to come back so it looked like he pushed me ahead of the line and I was done in Less than 2 hours.

Why are you so against smog checks to assure efficient engine performance so much that you would sell your truck because it needed to be smog checked? I’m not judging and have no issue with you doing that. I’m genuinely interested in your rational.

My rational is that the California “smog” check on diesel trucks was founded by lies coming out of the Bay Area. And yes it was proven to be lies but the state never retracted their stand. If the so called smog check was based on any scientific data that was calculated by a machine the was attached to my exhaust pipe I’d be fine with it as my truck is 100 % legal meeting federal emission standards along with state standards even though it isn’t a state vehicle. So tell me this, what kind of emissions test comes from a smog tech pushing an accelerator pedal to the floor and subjectively looking for black smoke? All at the same time the potential damage that can come from their “snap test”. What’s your rationale thinking that this is ok and has nothing to do with emissions and more to do with generating revenue and discouraging people in this state from owning diesel trucks?

When I started driving a school bus, you took a deep breath before heading out into the yard in the morning. On cold mornings you took an oxygen tank. Then there was the ether for a nice buzz.
When I retired 2 years ago, except for an occasional use of ether, this had all gone bye-bye due to the liberals and their laws that made sure diesels didn't get a free ride when it came to emissions.
You want to suck dirty diesel exhaust go ahead. I much prefer the cleaner diesel emissions of recent years.

Not exactly sure what you’re implying but I have no problem with engines evolving and getting better. All I’m saying is if you’re going to make me do an emissions test base it on actual emissions of the vehicle and set the standards at a realistic level of what that vehicle can do for that era. I’m glad you have the finances to have a 2018 but I gauarantee you in 10 years it will not meet the standards for 2028. Does that mean someone should tell you you have to buy a new truck?

I don’t have an opinion either way. Just looking for information to form an opinion. Frankly, I’ve never understood the negative attitude toward diesel. I’ve had two diesel F250’s in the past.
