I’m actually tossing around the idea of picking one up in the next year or 2...

Well heck, that changes things. I missed that in the manual. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Seriously? Wtf? So lets say an accident happened just right up ahead, you are on the highway and can't move because all lanes are now closed. So you just sit there in the summer heat with no A/C?

Just simply switch off the Start/Stop feature and the AC would be fine, it probably has cooled seats too.

A lot of trucks have a lower tow rating without brakes, even the 1/2 and 3/4 tons. I would consider the ranger after driving a rental F150 for a week, the 10 speed transmission was excellent. It was actually a bit of a downer thinking that I had to fight the tacoma transmission engine mess after it got out of the shop...I had to keep repeating, reliability and resale over and over...lol

I was actually thinking about a new Ranger my self, just do not think it will ever have the resell value of a Tacoma. That is why I purchased my Tacoma when I returned from Afghanistan. I was really impressed how much my 2007 Tacoma was worth.

In that case the vehicle will restart the engine so the AC keeps working. At least in the case of my GF Jeep it shuts the engine off and the AC keeps working just at diminished capacity. If you sit for more than s few minutes it turns the engine back on.

Honestly really hot days are the only time I have seen any negative from the start stop. On those hot days if I'm driving with my GF I just hit the button to disable it. Other days the fuel savings are noticable and well worth it.

Out of curiosity, is this always on? Most cars have an option to turn this off by pressing a button. I know Infiniti and Mercedes let you switch this on and off in seconds with just a button.

If it’s on all the time, that would make me run away from a Ranger or other Ford truck.

There is a button, but you have to push it at each start up.

It's a good thing there are options out there because people just want different things. I don't want a Ford because of what is perceived reliability. Given that, many of my family drive Ford or toyota without any problems .just maintenance. But for me Iove Toyotas and trust them. Don't care about resale, don't want to sell it. Don't want start stop, seems it would wear things out faster for measly improvement in gas milage.....that I don't care about either. Then there should our "weak" motor or "shifty" transmission. I have no complaints, I knew what I bought and love it everyday. Yes I love the lower end torque gas pedal on the 4.0 in wife's 4R, but doesn't stop the love on my truck especially with ECT. If I did change one thing I agree with what another member posted. Make it ECT all the time and give me an ECO button to shut it off. Just my thoughts. The Gladiator seems cool for 33s, better stock a0roach and departure angles, and front locker. But then you get a Jeep...with renowned UNreliability . I love my taco, no chance at looking elsewhere.

I bought a Tacoma because a premium trim model could be had with both the largest engine offered and a manual transmission. There isn’t another mid-size like that being offered, although Jeep is about to release their new awkward looking truck thing. I used to work at Ford as an engineer on the truck safety team. I want to like the newer ranger but it’s just a little bland for my taste. The Tacoma is hands down the best looking mod-size truck on the market. I am not sure why people buy anything else other than they don’t want to buy a Japanese truck.

The new Bronco I am keeping an eye on though. AFAIK they are still looking to do the 2.3 turbo with a manual transmission for that.

What about smart key? My ‘13 Fusion with push button start would remember the preferred setting from the seat and mirror positions to the electronic dash layout to limiting max speed by which key fob was in the car.

The Nissan Pro 4X or whatever the top of the line model is offered in a Manual too, but that truck is quite dated for sure.

My wife's 10 year old Prius has stop start...can't hear it and almost imperceptible feeling it.....gets 48mpg average combined city/highway. Only has 158k miles, but remember; it's a Toyota!

...^^^... Ditto, Of all the possible dislikes in a vehicle, the one that I hate the most is the “start stop technology”.

Hybrids are not the same. They can start moving on battery. They do stop and start, but it can be a smoother start. There is nothing quite like moving forward at a 4 way stop sign with the car starting and stopping a half dozen times within a minute. At super low speeds the hybrid can do a smoother job. Also the hybrids use their generator to start the engine, which is nowhere near as rough as a traditional car starter.
