I'm fortunately happy with my 2016 but I am worried about the enevitable future when I must buy something else. I don't want stop/start nor my truck randomly braking and spilling my coffee because it mistook a sign on a curvy road for a pedestrian. I also don't want to have a 5 step procedure to turn off all this nonsense every time I start the truck.

This is my first time hearing about this on a ford truck, I was just at a light a few days ago and thought it odd to hear a Ford 150 startup after the light turned green, now I know why it did.

Just watched a review of the ranger, and dude couldn’t get over that feature either. Drove him nuts, pun intended.

Don't worry there are thousands of guys that will take your place in line buying a new Ranger,Ford never had a problem selling their trucks.

Here is the reason I cancelled my Ranger order and bought a Tacoma instead.

    7CC4B7FB-78AB-415B-A775-9E1477C0EFD1.jpg

Please note the 2538 at the bottom; that’s the mileage at the first issue (failed adaptive steering causes by “death wobble”). From that first repair in March 2017 to now, that $75k truck spent 60 days (and counting since it’s still at the repairing dealer) in the shop with not a SINGLE returned call from anyone from Ford’s regional rep or corporate when we asked, repeatedly, for assistance.

If they can’t get their shit together on their “flagship” trucks, you think their entry level truck will be better? I’ll let some other sucker be that guinea pig!

Beautiful truck, ridiculous amount of power (445hp/935ft.lb.tq!), but hit a pothole, bridge or road expansion joint at anything above 55, and it was like the truck was going to shake itself to death, as in “holy shit, this is it!”! Litterally towed with it ONCE because the fear of it killing us wasn’t worth the risk.

If it drove the guy that nuts he simply should have switched it off, no reason to make himself that stressed out over something so easily corrected.

I think what it was, is whenever he turned it off, and then turned the truck off, and got back in, it was engaged again, and would have to repeat the process.

I dunno, I've never driven anything with that tech.

    OME and worth every penny.
I think it is true that American vehicles have historically had less than stellar brakes from the factory.

Now days this may carry over to all brands with all the weight cutting measures.

I dunno, test results would mean more to me than manual rec's.

I was in a loaner volvo v60 while my XC90 was getting service. Stop, engine cuts out, step off brake engine starts, move up 1+car lenghty, stop, engine stops... repeat. I know that with proper technique I could avoid this, but my other vehicles are an XC90 hybrid, Chevy volt and taco. The taco never stops and the others have enough battery power to get moving without starting the engine.

Welcome to Tacoma World. While I wouldn’t mind a diesel ranger (or a diesel Tacoma for that matter) I would not buy a first year of any model vehicle. Wait until all the bugs are worked out and for other people’s information and insight to come in from first hand experience and then buy something.

I was going to buy a 2016 3rd gen but then I realized the 2nd gen is damn near indestructible and has a long life expectancy while we still don’t know what’s going to happen with the newer models.

I say all that to say, if you’re wanting to do your research, this is definitely the place to be for Tacoma Knowledge. I’ve been on lots of different car forums but there is something about this place that is truly special.

Interesting. I will have to remember to not get a Volvo with start stop. I know gm and Fiat products aren't like that. They seem to have a limit on how often they stop.

My understanding is that with the new SPA architecture Volvos that you can turn off stop/start. If you don't turn it off turn on the heat/AC and it will keep running, or have a weak support battery (there is a main battery and a support battery to opperate systems while the car is off while stopped). There is no way to turn stop/start off permanently (it must be done with every drive).

Exactly. People don't realize that you can't just turn it off.

I had a rental 2017 XC60 for a few days last year with start/stop. There was a simple push button on the dash to turn it off. It was defaulted on but I didn't bothering looking through the menus or manual to see if it could be changed to default off since it was a short term rental.
