While stupid, it's a free market and the pricing is clearly listed.

What do you see as illegal?

Main rule of new car buying, never ever ever ever negotiate from the dealer addendum (that’s the BS side sticker, next to the real factory sticker)... just tell the salesperson that you’ll take the vehicle without the dealer add on’s, and only work with the factory numbers (MSRP and invoice). If they won’t accept your negotiation plan, move on to the next dealership... there are plenty out there.

We have one local dealer that uses dealer addendums... they add the BS exterior and interior protectant ($1999 markup for unnecessary product application) and they add a charge of $799 for lifetime car wash (a very simple and small dealer pass through auto wash bay)... I saw that sticker and immediately told the salesman we’re not even going to entertain that BS. He said, and I qoute, “yeah, but we’re one of those dealers that actually puts the protectant on the vehicle”... I replied with a polite and fast “good-bye”.

Still not as bad as the one at Dublin Toyota. They were literally asking $75k for a TRD Pro.

My Off Road had a sticker of $39,000, couldn’t imagine paying $60k for a Tacoma. I got out the door at $34000 as there was no way I was paying close to $40k.

I’m thinking there may be consumer protection violations... just because price is listed, one would need to read the fine print to ascertain what is actually promised vs delivered. For example, do you think the dealer adds 100% nitrogen (nope, the dealer most likely only adds some nitrogen to existing minimally inflated tire, mixing local environment air with whatever is in the nitrogen tank. To be 100% nitrogen, the dealer would first need to evacuate residual air with a vacuum system, then fill with nitrogen). That’s just a minor example... I wonder what is actually promised vs delivered, i.e., rental car “courtesy” for $250... is that all inclusive (gas and insurance). The term courtesy means what exactly (differers with individual interpretation).
