Ask Dad and Mom if they are wanting you to have all the Saftey features and since they are clearly wanting you to be safe, then maybe they would be willing to make say half of the payment for you. Explain your reasons why you don't want to spend that much money till you have all your ducks in a row -AKA house. I would bet they will understand your reasons and you may be surprised when they say "sure we can do xxx amount each month or give you a sum to boost up your down payment to lower your monthly bill.
Sounds to me they care for you a bunch -good luck -can't hurt to ask!

I found a red 2019 Tundy TRD OR access cab at my local Toyota dealer for $1,500 off MSRP. My dad said "nice try."

A base Tacoma SR 4x4 with automatic is over $28,000. I would never pay that much for a vehicle with no intermittent wipers!

I don't think the Tacomas have the lane-keep assist.
What would you want the ADCC to do different , wait till the last minute run hard up behind someone and all but slam on the brakes?

Also, my Tacoma still has plenty of life left in her! I literally just turned over 90K while driving a drunk friend home in the wee hours of Thanksgiving!

The most effective safety feature of any vehicle is the operator. Technology will never make anything idiot-proof against a sufficiently motivated idiot. Keep the 2010 and put the payments into a savings account.

I think the ADCC has the flexible following distance (our Subaru does -and my wife and I set it differently). With that adjustment you could set it so you are following a little closer so as to let the truck get a little closer to the vehicle it is following and sense the followed vehicle later. Hope this makes sense!

It does and it stays at the closest setting but it still slows down way to soon.

Keep your truck. I know I wouldn't have got it, if it was an option to forego it. Who needs it if you know how to drive.

The lane watch is somewhat useful. I could see the cruise control reducing the chance of rear ending someone. The backup radar looks sideways when reversing from a parking space. This tells you a vehicle is coming long before you could see it. But it's a parking lots so it's not exactly going to save lives. All in all I'm not convinced it's worth it. Give it a year or two and see how things progress.

A Tacoma has literally been the only vehicle I've ever owned. My dad bought me the truck new in September 2009, right after I got my learner's permit. 9 years and 91,000 miles later, I've grown quite attached to my truck. The one thing I'd do differently is get 4WD. I know how to drive a stick shift, but the 2.7L 3rd Gens only come with an automatic tranny and I'd really rather have a 2.7L than a 3.5L so that's what I'd probably settle for.

My biggest reason for getting a new truck would be TSS, specifically the automatic braking.

As of right now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with my present Taco. If I were to buy a new Taco, I'd sell mine privately to (A) get the most money and (B) make sure it's new owner would love it as much as I do.

I do not want an SR because I don't like the way Toyota designed the "blackout" front bumper. All 3rd Gens should have color-keyed front bumpers in my opinion. Also, I got one hell of a shock when I found out my then-new 2010 didn't have internmittent wipers, two days after we bought it! I have since added variable intermittent wipers to my truck. However, I think it is utter BULLSHIT that a brand new 2019 vehicle starting at more than 25 grand does not come standard with this feature that practically every other vehicle in North America does have.

I refuse to drive anything but a pickup or an SUV as my daily driver. My parents think I should consider a new vehicle because of the TSS-type safety features and are willing to help with a down payment. I have excellent credit, but would prefer NO PAYMENTS. My truck has been paid off since 2012 or 2013 and the title has been solely in my name since 2016.

I plan on keeping this truck (my 2010) until at least the next presidential election, if not longer. Should I just drive keep driving this truck, or make plans to sell it and buy a new one?

I am not sure why you want the TSS, but I have it and wish I didn't. I have been driving for 28 years legally, longer really though, and never needed it or wanted it. personally, if you don't "need" it, I would stick with your 2nd Gen.

I hear u on payments.... But isn't paying a loan off establishing a credit history?
Pay a generous amount down, go thru a credit union, and make smaller payments over time, or larger payments over a shorter period maybe?

I'm not any expert on how credit works, but that is how I thought it went.

The TSS in the tacoma isn't as ground breaking as it appears. The Camry and Rav4's TSS is much more effective and agile, where the Tacoma and Tundra are subdued. The pre-collision and radar cruise control are nice, but they aren't perfect yet.

My favorite feature exsists in the earlier models and thats the blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert, makes backing out into my alley a lot easier.

Perhaps get a long term test drive before you decide on one.

This seems real familiar, have you asked this question before? Anyway, I would say keep what you have if its not having any issues. I have a 2018 with TSS and it does have some nice features, but your whole goal in driving should be to never experience the automatic braking. Also, people get comfortable and rely on this safety stuff, therefore creating a dangerous situation. My 2 cents.
