The future of America

Now, I was thinking today about my kids and their future. I began to wonder about how life will be for them if things keep going the way they are going now. Without writing out a complete manifesto I’ll try to be brief and to the point. What do you think America will be like in 10-15 years? It seems that this country has come to the point where it’s split almost 50/50 between hardcore left and right. No one is rolling over and the arguments get more heated by the day it seems. Compromising on issues does not appear to be much of an option anymore so as it sits today, “Might makes right” which seems like a bad idea no matter who’s in charge. Is this just a bi-product of democracy, has true freedom been played out? We all pay taxes and to think about it simplistically, whoever is in majority control will determine how your taxes are spent whether you agree with it or not. I realize that this is the case no matter which side is in control. I try to put myself in “the other guy’s” shoes a lot, just to keep my ego in check. There are many things that I disagree with the way they are handled by our government but on the flipside, there is a person on the other side that balances my opinion out. We both are entitled to our opinions but only one of us will get what we want. When the numbers are spilt evenly (or almost evenly), how can the country continue to function rationally? Half will think things are going great and half will believe things are going to hell in a hand basket. I try not to push my beliefs onto others but when I vote a certain way for a candidate that I agree with, that’s kind of what I am doing because they have power to make laws and change laws to reflect their ideas of morality and virtues. In the past this hasn’t been such a big deal, the base of voters were not split as evenly as they are today. Now, no matter who wins, almost half of the population feels they are getting the shaft. So how does it go from here? Do you think things will ever get back to a point where it’s not so confrontational? Will the country somehow split and both sides live independently of each other? Is our country “too big to fail” or can we end up like some of the poorer African countries? I just wonder what it will look like here when my kids head off to college. Things might be great……….it just doesn’t seem like it will be. I hope this doesn’t turn into one big slamfest and I don’t intend for the moderators to have to spend all their time in here babysitting so please, please keep it civil. It’s really not intended to debate who’s right and who’s wrong, just to get your ideas about what you think America will look like in the future. If this needs to get locked up immediately I understand. I’m trying to make it as “apolitical” as possible.

Honestly, I don't care what happens! I'm gonna do my part to try and make it better but i'm not gonna worry about it honestly...I say fuck it! Let the pieces fall where they may

IMO if things keep going how they are now, it won't be pretty for the next generation. It seems like the radicals have too much pull in politics these days and no one wants to investigate before votes are cast. American people in general are getting along less and less, especially seeing as how our country was made. I fear that my daughter wont get to experience things I got to. On the flip side maybe these poor times will bring the U.S. people closer together, and maybe we will pull our selves out of this recession and things will be golden again. In another 15 years we could be in debt up to our elbows with other countries or be giving money away like words. I think as of now we really need to help our selves out and stop focusing so much on other countries problems....

I look around the world and watch the news and its all so frickin embarrassing....everything in this world is revolved around money! And thats all the leaders of this world are concerned with, Money and Power and expanding it where ever possible...no matter what the cost it seems

 

The real problem is there is more desire to be right (one of a human beings strongest desires) and a diminishing desire for compromise. I hope it changes towards compromise - you can get some good stuff with heated compromise and not falling over or bowling over. I work everyday on compromise in my business. It is nice when you meet in the middle with a workable plan.

 

Money is only a reflection of values. If it wasn't money it would be shells or salt. Money is not the enemy. Hatred and mistrust is the enemy.

I like your attitude! Unfortunately I'm a worrier I just hope my kids can grow up and be happy. I'm sure there are parents that watch their children suffer every day in other countries and they would be happy with much less for their kids than I would be. I don't care if they are rich or powerful, I just want them to have a decent life.

 

Oh I hear ya man...nothing would make me happier than to see my loved ones prosper ! Its so heart breaking to see children suffer...its not there fault ya know?

Isnt sad that years and years of progressive policies are proving to be failures. The more complex our society becomes, another politician (or party) will step forward and claim they know what it takes to fix the problem. Sadly, nearly every politician is self serving and does nothing with the longterm in mind... only getting elected.

We must get serious and educate everyone (that isn't an Obama drone) about the founding principles and how they apply now just as much as they did only a few hundred years ago.
If you do not get every family member, freind and collegue to aleast understand whats at stake than the US citizens will get exactly what they derserve. Even worse is that they won't see it coming.

Not everyone will agree with a conservative but like it or not its those conservative principles that brought us to this point. Government serves a role in a successful society but as the founding father's understood, it must be limited in scope.

Being Republican isn't bad, its just harder. You can stand on simple phrases like "everyone should have health care", "its my right", "I'm for liberty", "social justice".

These phrases have REAL meaning. These words can be interpreted in very different ways and usually not in a good way. You must listen closely to the words people use when they speak. It is easy to use strong words like liberty and freedom to support your POV but you must be prepared to explain specifics. Unfortunately Pop culture rules the day, politics is considered boring. Meanwhile the fall guys like "big business", "big oil", "big pharma" - private sector - take the blame every time for our issues. Low and behold who comes forward with the answers? The mighty gov't! Never accountable and always the best candidate for regulating the crap out of an industry. The Government is choking the golden goose that is the small business and the private sector.

Rant over, get motivated and spread the word of personal responsibility because that is what it will take to get off this downward slope.
