No, Toyota needs to STEP THE HELL UP and take care of this problem! I owned an f150 that had a little 2.7L motor that had torque out the ass(400 lb-ft) and was the fastest 0-60 time of any pickup made! There's no reason why Toyota, with all their legendary longevity qualities, should make the folks that spend $30, $40 thousand and even more for their trucks, making them the leader in sales in the mid-size truck segment, should keep producing such an anemic powerplant. The TSB that I got was definitely a step in the right direction. But I'd give my left nut to have that 2.7 from my F150 in my Tacoma...

I’d donate a ball to that cause! The Ford 2.7EB in a Tacoma would be “beast mode”........and also get better mpg......go figure.

Fair enough, but it’s ALOT more than fuel economy. The truck drives like it weighs half it’s weight

Fair enough. Can’t argue that Toyota screwed up the mapping on these new trucks. Nothing drives as fun as my cable throttled 2.4L 2003

I still think a diesel in the Tacoma would be sweet too. 3.0l turbo diesel

Still love driving my 2000 4.7L Tundra Limited with 200k miles on it. I bought it New in 2000 and It’ll still roast the tires when I stomp on it.

Mpg is very bad at 80mph. I often saw 12-14mpg at that speed.

Look at my 2nd post in this thread. I had driven about an hour with the cruise set at 80 when I took that pic. Much better after the tune.

I have a box stock 2016 TRD Sport access cab automatic I hated the way it shifted, I had all the same symptoms mentioned above, I was sure it was low on ATF, after about 5K miles it was better, but not grate, when I heard about the TSB 0062-18 I had no trouble getting it done, my truck now has only 16K miles, and all these Issues have cleared up, I/we now own a 2018 4runner and the trans in the Tacoma is almost as smooth.

I bought a 2018 Tacoma, got the TSB and then traded it for a 4runner after two months because of the diff howl (Toyota said it was normal and couldn't be fixed). Plus the wonky transmission. All around bad experience.

I'm amazed when I see so many people here talk about the transmission and say things like "it's a truck" or "29k miles no problem with mine".

My experience was very different. I'm not arguing. Just voicing my puzzlement. I've never driven a vehicle with a worse transmission. It was straight up unpleasant compared to any other vehicle I've driven in the last 20 years. I regularly got 13 mpg on the highway with a headwind and it constantly shifted. And the 3.5 felt like a 4 banger.

And I'm a fan of Tacoma's. Been driving them for 20 years. I think they turned it into a millennial truck. Maybe I'm just getting old and grouchy.

Before the TSB it was a high revving/shifting mess. After, the shifting and revving issues were 90% gone. Milage is meh. I get 17 highway at 72mph- with 255/85 R16's without milage correction. In town is worse. If I sized down on tires, it would be better, but I go off road a lot and don't want to get stuck on Texas mud. The TSB did fix my hating on the trans. I hated the trans within an hour of buying it. Now it acts like it should have.

Same experience. Improves with mileage and latest tsb . drives almost like my wife's 4runner and if I remember correctly almost like my fj before I sold it. Like a totally different truck. Almost 8t miles since the tsb and it still drives great .

When I printed off the pdf for T-SB-0062-18 it talks about Stumble at Wide Open Throttle Takeoff. States that automatic transmission may exhibit a stumble at wide open throttle takeoff during operation in a high-altitude area. If I describe my symptoms that I stated on page one of this thread, is my service tech going to apply this TSB? Why does this TSB fix the issues talked about in this thread when the pdf doesn't talk about anything of the sort? Just curious. It seems like T-SB-0077-16 talks more about "Busy shift like hunting gear behavior when driving on highway speed/slight grade. Delayed upshift when using cruise control."

Great, article in the previous post. Lots of opinions In the comments below the article.

I just purchased a 2018 DBCB A/T TRD OR 4x4, Dec 2nd so far the truck has driven fairly well. I have 1200 miles on it. To me it drives great, yeah if in cruise I hit a head wind, or climb a grade it'll down shift once or twice but nothing out of what consider normal. Just curious can I go to a web page and see if the TSB has been done on my truck.
