If your vehicle didn't go through insurance, then you should fix it then take it to dealer, so they give you it's full value because the Carfax history is clean and it does impact the trade in value. If it went through insurance, then carfax would have already picked it up as "Accident reported". So when dealer will appraise it, they will give you less for it whether fixed or not. Just depend on their estimates for the fix.

Interesting scenario yesterday, I was on my way to the movies and got into a small accident. I was turning left at a stop light / green arrow under the freeway onto a frontage road. He was turning right onto the same road. He wanted to call the cops instead of just exchanging info which was fine with me. Cop came wrote an accident report but didn't say who was at fault or issue a ticket to either one of us.

No damage to my truck but his has some rubber from my tire on it but his whole truck was already beat up with dents and scrapes. I told him to get a quote to "repair the damage" and to call me before we got insurance involved. If it's cheap I'll just write the guy a check as I don't want to risk my insurance going up. Any thoughts on this? Guy seemed cool so I don't expect any funny business but I'm just not sure if this is my fault or his. I'm also not sure how they would quote out fixing what damage my vehicle caused since it was only the areas that I circled, the rest of the bed was already messed up.

I took a bunch of pics of his truck to show what kind of shape it was in on the other side and tailgate before we even met each other. On the bright side zero damage to my truck it only rubbed my tire and we were probably only going about 10mph when it happened.
