Where's the fun in that? :p

What difference does 'knowing' make if folks aren't going to natter over 'why'?

Now what will be interesting on an enthusiast forum is to see if anyone confesses to using 'whatever Jiffy Lube uses' and 'cheapest gas available' :D

Since my truck is over your age limit, I won't obfuscate the issue by posting info.

We all know where this is headed. These threads always end up with...."my oil can beat up your oil" nonsense.

Oh...and don't forget. There's always some guy that chimes in and states the 0w-20 is way too thin and he runs only Rotella 15w-40. That's usually after all the Amsoil fans have chimed in. o_O

Alternate between dealer oil (ToyotaCare) and either M1 or Pennzoil 0w-20.

Usually I run Shell (I have a rewards card that saves me a few cents). Otherwise, I try to prefer Top Tier.

If you're running the factory spec'd 0w-20, then you have no choice but to be running a synthetic, as it's only available as such. All major synthetics, including most house brands are a high quality oil.

SuperTech, for instance, is GM Dexos approved...as are most of the house brands I've seen. Translation? They're an excellent oil.

Use whatever brand of 0w-20 you want and you'll be just fine. 5w-20 is also perfectly acceptable to run as well.

What may be a bit more important in the long run is the fuel used. While all fuel brands must meet minimum detergent requirements, Top Tier fuels exceed those requirements. So it's possible that your fuel system and valves could benefit from that over the course of the vehicle's lifetime.

As for octane? No benefit to be gained from a performance standpoint, as this version of the 2GR is tuned specifically for 87 octane at sea level. Certain fuels, like Shell V-Power 93 octane, claime to have additional cleaning agents. So that may or may not be worth the additional cost to you.

If you're towing a 5000 lbs trailer across the desert....the added octane certainly couldn't hurt as the ECM might be able keep from pulling the timing a bit. But it's not likely you would notice any improvement. Certainly no performance improvements could be felt under normal driving situations anything north of 87

Some of the newer GR and AR engines are now spec'ing 0w-16.

Any particular reason you're running it? Just curious....'cause it can be hard to find...a lot like 5w-20 was 20 years ago

Mobil 1 0w20 synthetic at 3500 miles, then what Toyota uses for the 10,000, and whatever is cheapest in town, usually 86 octane (high altitude state). I put in 88 octane periodically to bump up the octane to the 87 recommended, although I can't tell any difference performance or mileage wise.
