I don't know, maybe make an appearance package for the SR? It just rubs me the wrong way to see an "off road" model not even having a 4WD system. Maybe that's just me.

They did for 2019. It's the SX package on the SR.
I know what you mean, but consider this. The clean cut, suit wearing office guy that wants to present himself as a man to his office co-workers gets a TRD off-road. It says off road on the bedside stickers and no-one knows the difference between the 4wd or 2wd. He is now the talk of the office and feels good about himself.:burnrubber:

It's not just you, the question has been asked and answered at least once for every page in this thread.

Toyota is filling demand for the guy that wants a truck that looks the part, but doesn't believe he's actually going to need it.

There is a ton of off-roading that can be done in a two wheel drive truck. Four wheel drive is not a requirement to leave paved and gravel roads.

I get that to a point but all this just to save a few grand? The part that gets me is if this guy decides to sell he's going to either have a hard time finding a private buyer or going to lose a lot of value to make the deal. And forget about trading it in, dealers will never let him hear the end of it "Well Bob, we can only give you $xxxx.xx, it only has 2WD."

But you're wrong again...maybe you're referring to Southern CA in general without saying so. Parts of Northern CA has plenty of need for 4x4 on a daily basis every year. And even in Southern CA, you have all the towns and cities like Bishop near the Sierras that get dumped on with snow every year. Plenty of areas in CA that need 4wd, but everyone likes to think of CA as Los Angeles the same way they think of New York as NYC.

Maybe where you live. In an area where 4wd isn’t a big deal the price differences between a used TRD OR 2wd vs 4wd is not much and pretty much reflects the difference in initial cost.

    Like, so many.
Drives me bonkers though. I don’t mind people posing. I don’t mind mall crawlers. I don’t care if people are just trying to create an image. I DO mind a truck (any truck) claiming to be an off road worthy model that doesn’t have 4WD.

    ^^^^2wd

There are people with 2wd who off road harder than most of you pussies.

Toyota offers a 2wd off road because that’s... nevermind. Sell your Toyota’s and buy a ford. 4wd does not equal off road lol

He just did up above...most Baja racing trucks and the like are 2wd and see plenty of off road use.

Edit - so now we're splitting hairs on the definition of off road
