I'm a simulator instructor and check airman now. I always brief that the simulator is a 'mistake generator' and avoiding being too proud to learn is the key to success. I've also become very good at helping pilots make the mistakes that help learning happen.

    I'll agree with 'tires'.

    Two things seem unsaid I'd like to offer;
Have you checked your tailpipe to be sure it isn't crushed shut? I can't tell if it was involved.
If you're going to play out there - get a better flag. That one meets the requirements, but seriously - by the time someone see's that, they're already committed to crashing into/onto you. Get a flag that can actually be seen over the dune before someone flies over it onto your roof.

Well based off the picture of where you got stuck I'd recommend different tires lol

The MAXSA are a bit longer and have handles. They're almost identical to the name-brand MAXTRAX.

I've been riding Trials motorcycles since the mid 70's …(the really slow go over anything kinda riding) The first thing you learn is to walk a section and pick your LINE ! The Stick suggestion is a great one , and if your not experienced and equipped and or familiar with the trail don't go alone . And I gotta get some real tires to asap too , but with a little forethought you coulda driven right thru that slop . And always remember , mud ,snow and water are very skilled at hiding things from you !Enjoy your learning curve !!!!

Invest in basic recovery gear and tires. You really should have been able to get out of that stuck on your own

    Added the video to op.

Definitely a lot of things that I could’ve done differently.

In the video I was driving through a creek and it’s 20 minutes long with me getting stuck at the last 3 minutes. Mostly me going slow and getting out of the truck to see where I’m going.

I suck and new at this so yeah.

Too me it looks like you picked a bad line. I would learn how to read the terrain better before doing mods.

I think you got your quotes mixed up there. That was the Op, who appears to have deleted it.

It was a learning experience? No big deal. The lesson should be to make friends to go with you so you don't have to spend $60 next time. They could get you out.

No shame. Everyone starts somewhere with all things.

To avoid getting stuck altogether? More experience.

To get yourself out for free if/when you inevitably get stuck again? The answer is obviously a winch and/or friends with trucks...or, better yet, get both.

I think you're right. I suck and new at this so yeah. :)

Good on you on two counts, though - gotta start somewhere and it took a wee bit of courage, at least, to come on here to tell the tale and ask for help.

Agree with most else of what was said, but I think a new set of more aggressive tires would have helped.

Quality off road tires and a winch. Notice all the old tire tracks around that mud hole with large open patterns. Them stock tires look like they belong on a Camry.

I'm surprised you couldn't get moving with the locker and atrac on .... the tires are definately no good for mud, but the rear must have been suspended over the terrain when you went off that ledge

Good for you for actually taking your truck out and using the 4x4 which is less than a 1/4 of this board.

See if there are any clubs around you that you can wheel with. It has a lot of pros.

    1) you'll have a buddy to help in case you get stuck or worse.
    2) you can see what works on their rigs for the terrain you like to wheel. Sand vs rocks vs mud.
    3)wrench parties
    4) most clubs have atleast 1 guy with an old lift/tires/winch/lights from previous iterations of his truck sitting in the corner of his shop.

A come along could have pulled you a foot forward off the ledge and you'd be off and running
