Tailgate alignment ?

has anyone else had this issue? My tailgate doesn't seem to sit flush whenever it's closed. I can't see anything that is preventing it from sitting flush. Is there an rubber adjustment somewhere??

Mine is/was the same way. Close it a little harder and it will probably latch flush. I just got used to closing it with a little force and now I don't even think about it.

Yeah, try it first.
You don't want the dealership tweaking your tailgate if it's not needed.

 

Yep.... mine does it too... I let the first click latch and then I give it a hard push....

I was mad the first time I saw it... I was like WTF....

 

Yep, me too until I figured it out.
I close it from the middle now and it latches both sides every time. It either gets better as times goes on, or I'm used to it now.

Maybe, but I bet that's not the problem...
If the gate latches flush when closed with more force, then the latch is in the correct spot.

 

I threw on bed stiffeners not long after I got my truck. Never had the issue. Think they could help square everything up and correct the problem?

 

One way to find out. I'm a dealership bodyman and when you need to flush up a tailgate. That's your only adjustment point. The bed pillar striker plate. Most tailgates need slamming or more force than doors anyway because they close upward so they carry less momentum. I'd say give it a shot.

Mine does it too. Just on driver side though.

 

The thing is...if you removed it for purposes and then put it back, it never feel the same way anymore. Probably not a big deal if it not fully latched but to some people triggered OCD.

 

mine does the same, just learned you need to shut it pretty hard..

 

LOL sorry had some guest over and didn't get to try until now... YES IT WORKED... wow I guess I'll be slamming my tailgate closed from now on...

Does adjusting that catch piece work, or has anyone found a different remedy?
