Not just attachments. I'm fairly certain when my guns appeared among the sea of Diamondbacks, Mosin Nagants, and deer rifles a little poo came out.

You better back you that torch. That lens will be destroyed from carbon build up in less than 200 rounds.

Which lens? The IR cap or the actual bulb? Both seem to be doing okay after about 800 rounds in this configuration so far. Granted, I've only got a few hundred rounds with this particular muzzle device.

Is the nose heavy with that big of a light hanging on the front? Wheres your balance point? I shot a nice ak variant that was nose heavy and after many rounds it wasnt that enjoyable because it felt like I was having to use too much leverage because of all the weight up front

It balances about an inch in front of the magwell.

The Holosun only weighs 6.7oz and the M951 is probably a little over 10, so right around a pound. The rail only weighs 11oz, so it isn't as heavy as it looks.

That being said, I am looking at modern (aka smaller) lights. The M951 has served me well over the last 8 or so years, but there are more powerful lights (with built in IR) that weigh half as much.

Quick update - I was able to get the Surefire ATPIAL plug into the Holosun. It just required a bit more force than I expected, so crisis averted.

So I fired a round out of my carry gun into something living tonight. Not human, thank god, but alive. I got home after dark and was bringing groceries into the house when I heard a commotion from the chicken coop. I ran over, shone my light in and found a large raccoon surrounded by feathers and panicking fowl. I pulled the door open and all of the birds blew out past me into the dark while I drew and aimed, and I put one round in right at the base of his neck. Dropped him cold, obviously, and knocked him about 6 inches back. I holstered the gun, pulled him out, and started collecting birds (fortunately I didn't find anything worse than missing feathers and a few scratches).
When I was done, I took a closer look at ol' Rocket and couldn't find an exit wound. Now, granted, it is a large raccoon, probably close to 20lbs, and from the feel of him when I picked him up the bullet turned everything between the neck and the tail into spaghetti sauce (yuck). But, I'm surprised that the round didn't come out the back end. I carry 124gr +P Speer Gold Dots, and now I'm sort of second guessing that decision. Raccoons aren't particularly thick-skinned, so I'd have expected a large exit wound. So do I applaud Speer for designing a bullet that obviously transfers all of its energy to the target rather than traveling through, or do I get concerned about the lack of a large exit wound for a faster bleed out?

Tomorrow (when it's light out) I'll open him up and see if I can find the bullet, see how it patterned, and go from there.

Doing some research now, and I guess maybe I don't need to be too worried.

    https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog...124-gr-short-barrel-gold-dot-gel-test-review/

    "...S&W Shield 9mm

    Bare gel:
    Avg penetration: 15.4″
    Avg retained weight: 124.4 gr
    Avg max expansion: 0.577″
    Avg min expansion: 0.419″

    Denim:
    Avg penetration: 22.3″
    Avg Retained weight: 123.6 gr
    Avg max expansion: 0.494″
    Avg min expansion: 0.358″

Average velocity (6 shots): 1,082 fps"

Same gun as mine, same ammo as what I carry, and everything. The raccoon is easily as long as or longer than the 15" of penetration into bare ballistic gel, at the angle I fired at, so maybe not so unusual after all that there was no exit wound. Still going to open him up and see if I can find the bullet tomorrow, though.

Fun little firearms story from today

We went to my grandma's house for Christmas and apparently she's been complaining to my dad about squirrels...so he brought his old rusty Gamo pellet gun

I've never shot the thing, the Gamo scope is hazy and the gun sits outside on his screen porch year round and has for at least the last 5 years if not longer

7 shots, I killed 5 squirrels...unfortunately 1 of the missed shots did wound a squirrel but I was unable to get a second shot on him

I killed a ton of squirrels with my old Crosman 760 before dad decided I was fit to use a .22, and what decided it for him was that exact scenario. I put a pellet into a squirrel but just wounded him, and by the time I'd loaded another one, pumped the gun up, and gotten it back onto my shoulder he had dragged himself off into a brush pile for a slow death. He happened to see it, and that very same day he dragged his old single shot Winchester (?model 60?) out of the back of a closet, gave it a thorough cleaning and oiling, and we went out back and practiced.

I bet if you ask a squirrel, they won't think this is a fun story....

True, I'm just surprised that it didn't do a through-and-through on such a small target.

Turns out it whacked the collar bone, then the shoulder bone and the shoulder blade and disintegrated, more or less. The biggest piece I found was part of the jacket. The rest was just tiny pieces of lead mixed with bone fragments and what can best be described as 'red mush' inside a skin sack. It was a mess, so no photos of that.
