Well, I finally got it or at least it's pending. P2443, stuck valve air injection pending according to my Ultragauge. I realize that Toyota is now covering this with Customer Support Program (ZHA). Do I wait till it fires the code or can I go to the dealer and be proactive before it goes into limp home mode? I'll most likely have to call the dealer to get a definitive answer but I was wondering how others have proceeded with this fairly new campaign. I haven't received a letter regarding this support program. Thanks in advance....

ZHA covers certain 2012 vehicles. You will have to check your production date.

I got the letter & 2 days later got the same pending code on my UltraGauge. I did the pre-filter mod a few months before the first time the code appeared. All the internals & foam filter looked brand new. I've cleared it twice but it pops back up when I start the truck & cut it off w/in 20ish seconds. Last time I didn't clear it but it went away on it's own. I, too, would like to know if I can get it replaced w/the code just pending. I have it pending now.

If you do the Uni-filter mod, please keep your original parts. Just in case.

I'm going to try and call the dealer tomorrow to see what the story is. My sense of it is that if the code is pending, it's only a matter of time before it fires a legitimate code. It's not like it's going to heal itself. Hopefully the dealer feels the same way.....

I did this mod several months ago and kept the foam & cap just in case. Glad I did.....

Mine didn't heal itself but the code went away on it's own. If we didn't have electronic monitoring devices, we'd never know this code was pending because the truck will only throw a CEL when the code is stored.

Agreed. Did the code go away for a long time?

I do not have a 2012 Tacoma, but am curious about this Uni-filter mod. Is it supposed to prevent the P2443 and like codes?

It was gone for over a month until yesterday when I was removing my driveshaft. I had to drive it forward about 6" so I started it, moved it & killed it. Did this twice & next time I drove it, it was saying pending code 2443. I think because the pump had several cycles where it didn't complete the cycle so the ECM thinks it's messed up.

It potentially prevents the foam filter degradation issues inside the secondary air pump. The foam filter can degrade and jam, then burn out the pump. It doesn't do anything for the valve issues....

I had this code in early spring this year, just when I received the first extension warrenty for the secondary air pump. I took to local Toyota dealer, the master tech. Looked at it and said there was no water in the pump. He cleared the code and said Toyota would not replace unless it was p2440 or p2442! The code did return once after that time, I cleared it my self and it has not returned yet. The service person at my dealer is a long life friend and stated it will eventually return with a p2440-2442. He said that happened on the tundras a few years ago. I guess we will see, at least Toyota will pay for it.

My 'guess' is the dealer won't do the work based on 'pending'. Especially if the parameter is a large number key starts before it sets. Maybe a Techstream owner (@Jimmyh ?) could fill us in on that.

As you point out, most of the world never sees any type of 'pending' and often they do self clear. It's why the 'pending' and some parameters quantitative parameters have to be met before the code is set; avoidance of false positives.

They might do the work if you get lucky and they are looking for some work to do, or they just want to make you happy.

Let us know how it works out.

OP, this is just my experience from having stuck valves twice (I’m on my third set) and not actual “knowledge” of the system and how it works.

The stuck valve code (2443) never put my truck in limp mode. I think it’s the codes for the pump that will cause your truck to go into limp mode.

Good luck. Toyota stepped up for me both times, once in warranty and once out of warranty.

    FWIW I have a 2015.

I'm going to return the pump to it's original state. When I did the Uni filter mod I also added the cover for the pump that the later models had. I know there's a trick to unsnapping it to remove it. Anyone remember what that was and where to pry it off?

I used cut up thin pieces of plastic, 3 I think. Like a credit card thickness. Around the sides there are plastic snaps that hold the cap on. I used the 3 credit card pieces, pushed them in each slot to hold back the plastic clips. There’s a video somewhere or Pics. A google tacoma uni filter search would work.

Had you done the unifilter mod already before the code popped - just curious?

Edit - never mind , just saw lower down that you had.
