Got to love my 5spd

So tonight I was waiting for my girl friend to finish her tennis lessons, I was sitting in the truck with it turned off, reading the paper. I went to start it up and all I was getting was a clicking. All my power accessories were working, so I immediately realize the starter went. I give my father a call and he came down with a his little Hyundia. We were going to hook a strap to the front of the truck, but I am in the middle of painting my Bull Bar and removed the tow hooks. So we hooked a strap to the hitch, then to his car and popped the clutch in reverse.

My girlfriend came out and saw us doing this and she was quite embarrased, being we were in some yuppie tennis place and people were getting into their mercedes and bimmers, all the while we are towing my pick up in reverse to pop the clutch!

Got it going, now I just need to get under there this weekend and get the starter out.

Got to love having a 5spd, I would have been stuck with an auto.

i know what you mean man...i went to go pickup my girlfriend once at her dads gated condo place....tacoma with a 7 foot cb ant. bed lights M/T tires lifted up MUD EVERYWHERE!!! and here comes his (dad) girlfriend in a audi R8...what ever haha

The only reason to have an auto is for stop & go traffic, i.e. commuting.

I love being able to use my engine as a brake with a stick. You can do it with an auto, but it's a pain.

I hate autos that hunt for a gear on a slight incline...drives me bonkers. Suffice to say I don't own any automatics.

 

Ain't nothing like a 5 speed man. I love them, my only problem right now is having 230,xxx miles on the factory clutch.

So it has a mind of it's own when it comes to working properly.

 

I pull a 5000lb covered trailer. The brakes are in the process of getting fixed and so its just the truck doing the stopping. There have been more than one time I would not have stopped in time but for my stick.

I to have pooped the clutch out of neccecity. I killed the battery more than once and had to coast far enough or give it a push to get it started.

I changed the clutch in my s10 and must not have tightedned the starter bolts good enough. I went to start it one day and thought the starter pintle thing wouldn't engage the flywheel. for 2 days I parked on hills till I looked under the truck and found it was just loose bolts.

 

that makes no sense. ..however, i understand what you're getting at.

i perfer the auto because you can twist a jib whilst driving. ..can't do that and shift a 5 speed.

that's the only time i'd ever want a manual. it's 2010 for gods sake, let the car shift itself.

Yes my starter was fried, no jumping that! I like the public transportation comment, that's good. However I should rephrase and say more shocked. After we got it going she thought it was pretty cool and asked if we could do than to her car if meed be, I tried to explain why not but I lost her!

One of the dump trucks at work (97 F350) used to tear through starters due to some faulty wiring or something so often as not starting it was a matter of getting under there with something to tap the starter.
