What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Thanks. I got the wheels from my dad when he installed a 3" lift on his 2015. took me this long to get tires and get them installed.

 

Any of you guys have the part numbers for the two front diff mounting bolts, washers, and nuts?

I’m deleting my diff drop and my OEM bolts have pretty jacked up threads. Thanks in advance!

Swapped my cv out for a used one I bought for a spare because the boot ripped. Things I did wrong we’re not removing the skid plate first and removing the tie rod from the spindle. That would have saved me over an hour. Took me like 3 hours.... probably an hour and a half longer then it should have.

 

My clutch started slipping, so it looks like a new one is in my near future. It's only slipping when I'm in fourth gear, and only if I get on it. I don't remember it doing that last time. I replaced the clutch just three years ago. I didn't resurface the flywheel when I did, so maybe that is why the new one didn't last. I was telling a friend about it today, and he recommended checking to make sure all the bolts on my bell housing were tight. I did that and they all were tight. Well all the ones I could easily get to, except one. It appears I'm missing one. Anyone know the part number for it, or if I can just get a bolt from the hardware store?

 

I had mine off and on in less than an hour on the trail. Didn't remove the skids. Its all about angles and tweaking your body...lol

 

Yeah with my tools that I had on hand, I couldnt get it off. Tried for 45 mins. Took my skids off and had it out first try. Maybe I’ll look into getting something that I can use for that job

 

There's a little ghetto rope tool that someone on here sells just for acting like a slide hammer to pull the CV

I cannot find it but I know who will know what it is because I think I found it in his thread. @jberry813 What's the name of the rope tool you put around your inner CV and around an axe to pull it if for some reason you can't get a prybar in there. I know its super easy to make with some rope but I remember someone producing a nice one too.

 

We just make a loop with a piece of chain, choke that around the axle, put a sledge hammer thru the chain and swing away from the truck. Pops em right out. Usually chain and heavy hammers are in someone's tool kit.

 

Wrapped up deaver install with extended brake line.



Also replaced a damaged/leaking axle seal and did some cleaning.

 

Not a Tacoma thing, but thought I'd share. Did an oil change with a friend this morning. It had been almost 30,000 miles. You can see how thick the oil is in the pan, and in the oil filter, it barely wanted to drain back into the filter. And not even half a quart drained out! This is very damaging to the motor and could easily blow it up, lucky it didn't happen to this one. Please change you oil on time folks!!

 

I went to the junkyard today to pick up two bolts that I broke doing a brake job on my buddy’s car, and I left with Scion tC seats.

Story goes I’ve been looking for a nice set of seats to replace my stock buckets. About two years ago, I bought these wonderful Black Leather power, memory foam, and heated seats from a Lexus ES300. They were damn comfortable, and had everything I wanted. Only one flaw: they do not fold and slide forward like the stock seats. I always have people sitting in the back, so that feature was imperative. I ended up sacrificing some 60/40 Tacoma rails and welded Angle Iron to the sliding mechanism. The issue of the seats being too high, and the seats not allowing adequate rear access was an issue.

I had to scrap that idea, and it has been on hiatus ever since. While I was getting those two brake caliper bolts I broke, I noticed the two door Scion tC I was working on had these nice looking black seats. They folded forward exactly like the Tacoma, so I decided to buy them.

Tomorrow I’ll be shampooing them with my RugDoctor, cutting off the stock feet, and welding the Tacoma feet on. Already a huge improvement over stock just sitting on them in my garage.
