just use 6 qts., mine is rec'd for 6.1 qts. and I use 5.5qts. cause that measures to the full line dipstick on my engine 2.7l 4 cylinder, no issues

Yeah makes sense. I just hate opening a 7th quart only to use a little and just leave it.

A Cruiser owner in the GCC region snapped it, alas, I can't take credit.

    Another question.

My truck isn’t due for an oil change yet, but it’s been sitting in a container on a ship for two months. Does the oil in the engine sitting there go bad? Should I change my oil or wait for 5000 miles?

    Thanks.

This is not telling you to use a higher viscosity oil in your 3rd Gen. In the context of the section your picture was taken from, it's an explanation of oil viscosity.

If you were to run with this statement, you could pour gear oil in the crank case and be fine. It's got a higher viscosity right?

The manual spells out what to use. While I doubt most will have issues running 0w-40 or 5w-20/30, I don't see any reason to use anything but what is recommended.

I guess when I get a few hundred thousand miles on my truck we'll know.

Can somebody snap a picture of oil that is the correct viscosity and will blow up your engine - cause I don't think it exists. Brand doesn't matter.

The manual states a quality of oil (API SN, -ILSAC preferred-) that should be used. Gear oil statements aside(an Exaggeration and falsehood, I have had toyota dealerships install 0w40 intoMy 4 runner based on this statement in the manual and my instructions.) anything from0w20 to 15w40 In SN grade is acceptable quality. If you undergo emissions test and your truck consumes oil I would recomend ILSAC for the emissions equipment.
0w20 is recomended for fuel economy (and to guarantee that synthetic quality oil is used. It provides adequate protection for average American driving. That will keep the engine running well past the time the truck is heading to the junkyard for a worn out interior/being too out of date, or wrecked.
However, if you use the vehicle in services that aide the engine speed to run higher than average daily driving, such as high speed driving(80 mph for 400 miles is my trip to work lately and any headwind rewards me with hours at 3500 rpm) or mountain driving, towing a trailer, driving long distance in deep sand like I used to do when I would fish PINS obsessively. Or you spend a significant amount of trail time in 4 lo. A higher viscosity selection may be better suited for that service.
I do not believe 0w20 is inadequate. It is in both my rigs for the winter. 0w40 is going in for the summer. These engines are not hypersensitive to viscosity, or else they would grenade upon a start on a cool fall morning. Because the 0w20 is much more viscous at 32 degrees f than 0w40 is at 75f.

Many people prefer a simple explanation and don’t like that simple explanation to be challenged. That is why the CAFE comp, ain’t language on the first page of the oil specification page in the owners manual is so faithfully followed. It’s simple and easy and adequate for the way most people drive.

All I advocate is that there is more nuance to engine oil viscosity selection based on temperature and service to explore if an owner cares to. But at the same time it is not as critical as the quality and approvals the engine oil has.
That being said follow g the recommendations to a letter will get the vehicle to the end of your expectations.

Just add a little water in the oil to dilute it a little

    Thanks for the help, guys.

She finally got here. Untouched and in the same condition I left her in. Customs didn’t even search it I don’t think. I should have brought my rifles lol.

Any suggestions on any type of maintenance I should do? She’s been in that container for 2 months.

    Congrats!

I would just trickle charge the battery and do run a visual check on everything.

    Stay safe

    Cheers!
