This is something I have been wondering about??? I emailed copied and they said the ATW has more of a truck oriented tire since it comes in E rated sizes whereas the 4s is more of a passenger vehicle type tire and has more “technology” incorporated into the design.

A softer tire is generally going to do better in snowy conditions, and this is reflected in the delineation between the ATWs M+S rating vs the AT3 4S Severe (3-peak snowflake rating). The stock 3rd gen tires on my OR were M+S and they weren't that great in the snow... I'm sure the ATW is a fine tire and probably does decent in snow so if you needed a heavier rated tire for carrying constant loads or doing a ton of towing it's probably not a bad option. But if I needed it for that reason I'd probably go with the Cooper AT3 LT given it has a newer design (and looks better...)

I believe both the ATW and the 4S are severe weather rated???

    ATW are M+S; AT3 4S are Mountain/Snowflake

The ATW was the first of the AT3 type of tires to be snow rated. I double checked with cooper and they confirmed both tire are severe weather/snow rated. Which makes me think too much

@bshammer0 are you still happy with your 4S? I feel like after reading your review and seeing your pics these are the winner. I kind of want the ATW mostly for the 235/85/16 size, but your truck looks so good I can live with the 265/75/16 :)

Couldn't be happier with them. they are wearing well after over 13k, never lose grip in a downpour, handle well off road. haven't had them in snow YET but will soon to report back. can't imagine a better no-compromises kind of tire (unless you needed an MT or E rated for towing/heaving loads or something...)

@bshammer0 i gotta ask, did you notice if your MPG’s changed when you went from BFG’s to Coopers?

Sorry, never had BFGs on this rig. Went from the stock Kevlar Wranglers to the Coopers, but I had no change in MPGs despite the 5-6lb heavier tire

I'm considering the same size. How's the ride? Got any other angles? Trying to see how narrow they appear on the truck.

Love the ride so far. I'll take more pics later today. I've had this tire size for a while and really dig it. It's a great compromise of looks and utility (I don't care for wide tires)

Thanks! Are you lifted too to accommodate the additional tire height? If so, how much. I'm not lifted yet but am considering a couple inches this spring along with the tires.

Yes I'm lifted maybe 2" or so? I have the wheeler's off-road progressive add-a-leaf in the rear and OME 885 springs up front.

Thanks for the extra pics. I'm considering Headstrong kit with 5100's, their 2" coils, and some Dakars. Tires are looking narrow. These are exactly the kinda pics I needed to see how the stance would look. I really appreciate it! Now I just gotta decide if it's the size/look I want.

Absolutely. I just put these (P-rated) through the ringer this weekend on the gnarliest roads I've ever driven here outside of Tucson. Haven't seen worse in Anza Borrego. The more aggressive sidewall tread really helped out a lot.

I'm also very impressed with these on well-maintained dirt road. I was flying down them and felt so secure. Coming from Hankook Dynapro ATMs, and these Cooper's outperform in my opinion

Just ordered a set of these tires. I'll be interested to see how they compare to my old AT3's and General Grabber AT2.

A quick deep winter update: It hit -20F for a few days over the weekend and through Christmas, and the 4S's have continued to have excellent performance. I've put about 3000 miles on them so far, almost all of which have been on ice and snow, and they've continued to improve (or I've learned their handling and adapted). Stopping traction on glare ice is still not as good as a premium studded tire, but it's about as good as a non-premium (i.e. not a Blizzak or Michelin X-Ice) studless winter tire. They've stayed round at -20F too which all-seasons can struggle to do as the rubber freezes and takes a while to thaw out leading to thump thump thumping down the road. Packed snow and fresh snow traction is excellent. Haven't seen much clear highway however, check back in April...:(
