This thread had gone sideways, I thought I’d inject some humor.
I suppose my humor, when put to print, is subjective.. :anonymous:

I take the meaning of Sport as a truck one would use for activities other than off-roading. Camping, fishing, hunting, sea side activities and the like. Needs to be somewhat off-road capable to get to the places such activities take place. Some dirt roads, hard beaches over some fields etc. A 4x2 would fit this bill in most cases but having the 4x4 is a bit of insurance. Sure a Sport can be made to be a heavy duty off roader with a new suspension, more aggressive tires, rear locker and other such goodies. But if you want an off roader, then best to start with and OR. If you just want to play and go to some places the Honda Civic won't, a Sport makes perfect sense to me.

Everyone is free to disagree, but to me all this 2WD, 4WD, and OR decals, Sport decals talk is silly. Who cares what someone else wants or thinks is cool?

What comes to mind is all those Corvettes and Camaros GM sold decaled and lettered out as an Indy pace car. Is that guy's vette any faster or special than any other vette? No. Are we supposed to think that this guy's vette was the official pace car that actually led the Indy 500? No.

I didn't need 4wd and have been happy with 2wd. However I will probably get a 4wd for my next truck.

It makes business sense to cater to those who likes the look but don't need the 4WD. Best example is not all 2007-2010 Jeep wranglers JK models are 4WD.

A TRD Off Road 4x2 just means the owner can go both ways. They are Bi-Road

The more time I spend in this thread, the more I want to disconnect my front drive-shaft. The 2WD guys have way more fun. I could also just buy a used Crown Victoria if I want to get serious about Offroad.

^^ They are cleverly disguised as “Blew my C.V. Joints......AGAIN!!” threads.

did you know there's a manual hub conversion available for our trucks? it doesn't affect the electric actuator, so no changes at all to the truck internals or functions. just adds manual hubs and locks, so you can simply unlock your front end whenever you want. I'm considering it maybe next year. not a huge thing but removes a bit of parasitic suck at the front diff.

One of the Toyota salesman I worked with told me that with all the tech these 3rs gens have 4WD isn't really needed anymore. He also told me that they didnt come in manual transmission either, needless to say a deal was not struck that day.
