Drive shaft spiders for 2WD

    So I was ordering the spiders so I can get started on servicing my drive shaft, I ordered to from a seller but they did not have a third, so I reached out to a different seller to order the third one.

    This seller told me that the part number I was purchasing was for 4 wheel drive only, but I can't find that anywhere else and I can't imagine that that makes any kind of a difference purely for the drive shaft spider.

    Here is the part number:
    04371-0K080

    Is this fine for a 2-wheel drive Prerunner?
    If not...what is the correct part?

    Yeah, specifically the spider joint that wears out.
    it would appear that the only one that is compatible according to the VIN is the one that is not greasable

    The Prerunner takes the same universal joints as the 4X4.

    I called the local stealership who confirmed separate part numbers for 4x4 and 2x4. Though I would like to know if it really matters as the "4x4 only" one is greasable while the "2x4 only" one is not.

    "4x4 Only" | Can be greased - 04371-0K080

    "2x4 Only" | Cannot be greased - 04371-04030

    You can use and i would recommend using the 4x4 greasable one

    Yes i am 110% positive, i personally would just go to the local parts store and get some moog and napa joints and call it a day. People hate on “not oem” but i have never had a problem from any high end aftermarket part like moog or denso for example. (Denso makes parts for toyota)

    My 2015 PreRunner v6 4.0L Automatic has no zerks.

    Wife's 2014 4R 2WD SR5 has zerks.

    Why? Who knows.

    2 different vehicles.

    I know a lot of people resent having a non-greaseable zerks on some of the PreRunners. My 1995 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2L Automatic also had no zerks. That vehicle is still being driven and has the original driveshaft and all related components. Mileage is currently around 305,000.

    Well I get that, but it is always cheaper to manufacturer the fewest parts possible. Since the prices are the same, I guess I will get the greasable ones.

    wtf are you talking about....

    Again, The Toyota part numbers you listed above (both the non greaseable and the greasable "4x4" u joint) are both made by Spicer.... the one i linked to above directly from spicer is made by spicer here in the USA just like the toyota part at half the price and its the more preferable greaseable end cap style u joint.

    So is it? I mean if it's on Amazon and it doesn't specifically say I just go ahead and assume that it's imported.


    Wait so if they're the same thing, aren't they Spicer's the ones that people have been complaining about? Which I guess would be the same issues for OEM?

    You can look RIGHT on the OEM ones, the ones you linked part numbers to and it will say Spicer or SPR. Spicer is a LOOONG time manufacture of driveline components building some of the best components out there. People that complain about the u joints on the tacoma are often the people with prerunners without greaseable joints.

    Also just because its on Amazon doesnt immediately mean its non USA made.... bought MANY a thing on amazon thats made here in the USA.
