Yeah it was pretty awkward when I showed him on their website inventory that they had a few manual trucks in stock.

Either that wasn't a stock rear or he got very lucky. If one rear wheel loses traction, you ain't going anywhere.

How does one "pre"run? Isn't that a run itself? I mean I get that it's before the MAIN run, but still...

As I understand it, it's not any run or event, it's just a run to check the desert course before the race or event.

And it's done with a 2WD truck with slightly lifted longer travel suspension.

Probably not. Those are much lighter with some sweet looking suspensions.

Also, don't forget the engine weight is right over the rear drive wheels.

Here's something else a VW Bug can do that our Tacomas can't.

I like seeing this kind of stuff it gets old seeing all the negativity surrounding 2wd. The people that go around saying “you don’t own a truck if you got a 2wd you got a car” it’s nice to see some people actually putting in a good word or two some.

I've heard that it will take more skill your 2WD should still be very capable!

Interesting, helpful & some amusing responses to buying a 2wd over 4wd Tacoma. I think Toyota makes an excellent vehicle, there are real good reasons for buying a 2 wd truck under the right conditions. Gas mileage is better, improved tire wear & tear, less moving parts / maintenance and still having a handy truck to boot. Those of us in urban waste lands that love small trucks don’t need 4wd In say..Manhattan. But we still haul our bikes out to the beach, Costco shopping, & maybe helping someone move something from the Bronx to Brooklyn. Toyota makes 2wd trucks because they have a market for them, not to sucker unsuspecting buyers imho...

Are you the bike snob NYC? I’ve been thinking of doing a Tacoma snob NYS.

Last one I checked he had a Subaru the bank owned. Maybe he has a Tacoma the bank owns. Either way, I’m a fan of his scorn.

Thats true man, but don't forget there are still people in BFE that have 2wd and just know how to use them. Its just all like anything in life. Someone says this and someone else says the opposite. With what ive learned in old farm trucks and such I almost bet if I wanted to beat on my truck enough (which I dont) That I could get it in some places people would be surprised with.

The strange thing is that in Tacoma world of all places, 2wd has such a negative connotation. I would have thought Tacoma owners knew better. But based on the comments about 2wd, some of these folks know NOTHING about 2wd, off road, and tacomas. They just now bought into a “lifestyle”.

I spend lots of time in NYC & South Florida, in both of those area’s a 2wd vehicle is sufficient. I don’t own a Tacoma, was looking to buy one so I came to this site. I noticed the dealer in Delray Beach had several 2018 2wd Tacoma’s for sale. Like many I thought why would anyone buy 2wd when 4wd is only a few thousand more. I’m not buying a lifestyle, I want a vehicle that suits my needs in Fl. & NY. For me No snow, mud, & no you can’t drive on the beach in Boca Raton,Fl. so why 4wd? I’m the complete opposite of a liberal nyc bike snob, just someone trying to gather info on why a 2wd is such a problem. My retired neighbor in NYC has a Ford F-250 Super Duty 4wd that he rarely drives, I guess he bought the lifestyle, lol.....
