2WD tacomas are great for a lot of things, but if you're interested in wheeling .........

I bought a 2wd because I looked at it this way. Sure, it's only a few thousand more, but its a feature that I would rarely if ever, use. I had a 2wd truck before this Tacoma for 13 years and never needed 4wd, so why start now. What if you want to go wheelin you say? Guess what, I do go wheelin, just not with my truck. I like to go ATV riding and my 2wd truck gets me to the trail head and mud pit entry just fine. Say something does go bad and I do get stuck, well, I will have my ATV and there will be others around too with their ATV's or 4wd trucks. So, that few thousand more for 4wd, I saved that and can use that on my other toys that do use 4wd, or I can spend it on accessories for my motorcycle.
What about resale some will ask. First of all, I didn't buy this truck to resale, I bought it to use it for my needs, not someone else. Again, I had my Dakota for 13 years, so does resale really matter to me? I'm gonna say NO.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. I don’t know how anyone pays 30k+ for a truck and just throw it in the woods and wheel with it. Buy a 5k used 4wheeler with the 3k you saved not getting that all mighty transfer case front axle and cv axles. Who gives a shit if you roll a four wheeler? You flip it back over if you’re not hurt and get right back on? If you roll your truck that’s a whole different story. Have fun telling insurance why passengers side is all banged up.

No when I wheel I use a Honda rancher. I like side by sides though but wouldn’t wheel with it. I use sidebysides for working cattle. I just meant people who use their trucks if they roll them or run them into a tree or a rock good luck explaining it to insurance without them taking that good premium up. Or dropping your insurance

Defintely a posi traction rear, if it's a police cruiser Crown Vic. Either that or they welded the rear on this one.

    THIS THREAD IS STILL ALIVE?!?!?!?!

Op 2wd is awesome it works great and if you get stuck, just make sure you have a 2x4 and a bed tie down strap in the back, and strap that 2x4 to your wheel you'll get out everytime.

I think everyone is missing the real question here... but does the 2wd OR have crawl control? Obviously that is superior to lockers.

I have had both a 2wd Tacoma which I currently drive and a few 4wheel drive trucks . You have a nice truck you might as well enjoy it and pay it down and get some use out of it . But 4wd is a good feature but is not Necessary to go off-road Ing plenty of people have been driving 2wd trucks all for years all over the earth off road so the choice is yours.
