Painting my new SOS skids for my '17 and found that I like the grey/green color of the Krylon self etching primer. Anyone see an issue with just putting 3 or 4 good coats of primer on and skipping paint? Would it offer the same rust protection? Thanks

Primer will absorb moisture and eventually lead to rusting on the metal below.

If it's the color you like, clearcoat it with a matte or satin topcoat.

There’s also bed liner spray in a similar color that you could lay on to.

Tuffliner on top of the primer, unless you seal the primer it will start to rust, did body work for years and you have to seal it or topcoat it.

Krylon And rust o leum have camoflage line of spray paint that should come in a color you like. It's weather proof and hasn't flaked on anything that I've painted that includes firearms, camping gear, and my trucks splash guards

Looks like Sage or River Rock would match.
