I keep the f350 in the backyard and the Tacoma in the driveway. Different trucks for different things.

This. Not sure of what your towing needs are to have ended up in that big of a truck in the first place.

    Fitting in here already ;)

My $.02. Assuming the Ford is a diesel- keep it!!! Take your time and find a clean 1st or 2nd gen 4 cyl 5 lug and use it for the daily stuff that doesn’t work for the Ford. The money you would loose on the swap ( depreciation and taxes) would probably pay for the truck. I love having my old dodge and it’s more of a go to than my Tacoma

I have a Tundra, while it's no F250 it is bigger than my old Taco. If I didn't need to tow I would buy another Tacoma. They are fun to drive, easy to park, and overall just a great truck.

I went from a 2014 Ecoboost supercab f150 to my double cab trd off-road. I enjoyed the f150 but for me the Tacoma is absolutely way more practical in its day to day use. Parking is way easier, fit on small trails, qaulity just feels higher on the Tacoma, I'll never tow anything near it's capabilities, bed is easier to access. I use it a ton hualing kayaks camping gear, misc home Depot crap. It's great being able to reach in and grab stuff.I do miss that 36 gallon tank and 400lbft tq though.

I went from a 2016 F150 with the excellent 2.7 to a 2018 v6 Tacoma. There is a substantial problem with the Tacoma's transmission while on the highway. I will get the update when I go in for the 5000 mile thing. Hopefully this will improve things.

    That's a big switch.

I'd think about it a bit. Why did you buy the F250 in the first place? That's a lot of expensive truck. A Taco is a very different vehicle.

I'd drive one a bit first.

I like my truck. Only you know what you want or need. It doesn't have the grunt the F250 does for sure.

I’ve been a lurker since last December. Im 52 and have driven more than my share of POV, rentals and company vehicles. I knew full well of the complaints about the automatic tranny before I bought my 2017 TRD Offroad. I test drove it around a neighborhood and it didn’t seem all that bad. After owning it for a few weeks it was clear the complaints are all true. If you can drive it out in open country or with no traffic, it’s can behave just fine. If you drive in changing conditions, like traffic or winding rolling roads, the transmission will always be lugging the engine when you want to keep up with changes. Downshifts by throttle generally are aggressive and short lived. It will not stay in the proper gear. You have to shift your “automatic” to make it work. My Dirty Max / Alison doesn’t behave that way in the least. The 4Runner and a recently rented JLU have those tendencies but they’ll generally keep the right gear on a downshift.
If you can tolerate a truck that spends all of its time lugging away with a locked convertor at 1000 rpm, I think you’ll love the truck. That was my only complaint. I return here on occasion to see if Toyota has offered up a proper fix but we all know that ain’t gonna happen.

It won’t sadly....16 and 17 Tacoma’s stacking up on used lots around my neck of the woods. So if OP wants one they aren’t hard to find.

Yeah well have you seen the f150 get rear ended? The aluminum crunches up like a soda can and the bed almsot flies off.

This thread has run its course. I'm sure somewhere in America a 6.7 Ford owner has had a turbo blow up, a injector tip fall off, the passenger side head crack etc. The kicker is it won't have happened out towing some big travel trailer it will have happened while they were out eating at the American Embassy aka McDonald's. The sad part is they'll take a withdraw out of their 401k to fix the said piece of shit.

I had a F250 diesel before my Taco. I loved my HD for towing our nautique g23, but otherwise had similar complaints about the size. I have two boys, 14 and 9.

Haven't looked back since swapping for a 2017 TRD Off-road.The 4 of us made it from Dallas to Moab and back without killing each other ;-) sure it's not as roomy as a full size but good enough. It did really well in stock config in Moab.

I've since added Icon Stage II front and rear, 33's with the cab mount chop, and run timbren helpers in back to keep it level when towing our slightly smaller MasterCraft. They also double as great bump stops when off roading. For me it's been perfect for camping, fire roads, some off road parking driving.

It's a great vehicle and I love having so much aftermarket support for it. Only wish is for more torque. Maybe at some point a supercharger option will become available.

A vehicle is a machine and they all break eventually. When you outsell a vehicle 10-20 to 1, such as ford does versus Toyota, of course you’re going to hear about more of them requiring repairs.
Not sure what the point of the McDonald’s comment was though

Sorry I gotta chime in. Usually I just read the commentary but on this one i felt the need. I just sold my 16 Taco and I will miss it for what it was, a small pickup. Like many of you i live basic. I work and play when I can. I.e fishing, camping, minimum off roading and house chores. I have kayaks not a boat, a Harley and bicycles not dirtbikes. For what I needed the taco barely satisfied beyond being a small truck. There werent any other small trucks available that I liked to invest in. I thought the chevy/gmc were beautiful but was afraid of fit and finish issues long term. In my time 2.5 yrs I ABSOLUTELY HATED the lack of seat controls and the engine/trans combination. I also concurrently own '17 4Runner that I LOVE. I you dont think the new trans/eng suck in the taco then I suggest you drive a Runner and you'd swiftly understand. The sacrifice they made for little gain stole the driving excitement. Also the back seat sucked for leg room and function beyond simply being there. I would of preferred a shorter hood and 5 more inches in that rear seat for my kids and anyone I chose to ride with. After all this is a still a family vehicle in marketing and real world.
I will miss my pick up bed and small truck attributes. I will be replacing it in the near future, but i will hold off to see what the competition brings. Otherwise it will be an F150 with center console gear shifter! For the same money and gas mileage least I'd get more function even if its harder to park.
Fwiw I previously owned an '04 F150 screw.
I hope this help someone and Toyota if their monitoring. An in between taco and tundra would leap off the shelves. Not all of us are towing cattle and off road every day.

Little tree air fresheners. Clazzio black leather seat covers.
I've been looking at trading my 16' Tacoma for a new F250. The more you do the less room it seems you have in a Tacoma. I'd also rather have a full size truck that gets the same or better mileage then what I'm currently seeing in my Tacoma. Along with that the Toyota dealer in my area is SHIT! I've heard nothing but great things about the Ford dealer.

Do 57% of Tacoma owners self report a problem with their BRAND NEW truck?

Even RAM apologists accept their build quality is subpar. The truck is nice, the interior is awesome, but it’s reliability is trash. More often than not, you will have problems within the first month!

Also consider the tundra as it's closer to the f250 size. I have a 2010 4runner that shares a lot with the taco. I couldn't love it more...
