Beautiful animals...Id still eat them and make tamales, but seeing them out in nature is awesome.

I doubt anyone hiking with a shotgun would keep it at a low ready after the first few miles. Most get lazy or complacent after awhile carrying long barrel guns.

That’s why guides are going with hot 10mm Glocks. 14 rounds is better than 5 or 6.

I don’t know anybody up here in Alaska that advocates carrying a Judge (a terrible compromise on everything) or loading anything other than slugs in a shotgun. Depending on where we are going and the likelihood of encountering bigger brown bears some guys will carry a 10mm. Most of us carry a .44 or bigger with solid hardcast wide-nose lead bullets in chest holsters. Avoidance is the first step, bear spray backed by firearms is the last step.

Fify? Are you trying to say fifty? If so, gonna say a big nope. Looks more like a modified M14 that shoots 7.62, which those rounds look a lot like. Size might be close bullet wise if it was a pistol round casing, but looks far to small to be a long neck .50. At least not the ones we shot.

Also dare anyone to shoot a .50 cal long neck casing out of something that size. Would be pretty awesome if you could manage some API out of one though. lol

I've had several VERY close calls with Grizzly Bears. They are a different beast. They have individual personalities like people do. Some are cranky old men and others are scared of their shadows.

If a bear is irritable and doesn't like the fact you aren't sprinting for your life like everything else in his kingdom, he might kick the snot out of you for something to do. Bear spray and guns work sometimes and often not. It's up to chance how fast you can fire and where you hit it.

My friend got his Grizzly in northern BC and it took 6 rounds through the Boiler with a 300 win mag and nosler accubonds. They are tougher than you can possibly imagine.

Handguns are a prayer unless you can score a perfect brain shot.

#1-Going after a bear with a recurve is dumb & #2-Should have had bear spray! Black bear are often more aggressive than Browns and don't usually let up once they attack.
