I spent $84 on scratch off lottery tickets to put in the stockings. We “won” $74, so it cost me $84 to give away $74. o_O

I’ve been checking out the YouTube for the last few days on everything about them. Best Buy didn’t have any landing pads. Going to try and make it over to Hobby Town and see if they have one soon. May just make one for the time being.

Those are good ideas and I’ll definitely make sure that is done before we lift off. I got him the fly more combo so it does have the prop guards with it. I did see how they said to pick it up and orientate it. It has the auto lift off and hovers at 3 ft. He’ll be starting off using his iPad to fly it so the range will be pretty limited. I do like putting a phone number idea on the batteries and body for return. Do you fly too?

    Thanks for the info!

Yea, there are some great pilots I can send you my subscriptions for. One guy Mike Kincade is great. I'll find the others.

Just pick up some black spray paint and make a circle with an X in it on the back of the TV box. You can use that as a landing pad. Make it like 3' diameter. If you want, I can plot some out on paper and mail them to you when I get back to work. The collapsible kind are nice because they fold. If that's what you want, save some money and use a car sun shade. Just make a stencil and spray paint that.

I use a heavy folding beach blanket thing. It's rather large. It folds up small though.

I have a Mavic Pro, 1st Gen. I haven't had the time to fly it lately though. I also have a 256mm racing drone. And a couple pocket sized toys.

The biggest problem with the controller is the screen brightness. Look at "hoods". Those help.

That gyroscope setup is crucial! Do it outside away from the house, or any electrical wires, or rebar in concrete. The drone app will let you know when you have maximum satellite lock, and if you don't. I recommend only flying under optimum conditions until he can handle full manual flights. These things are very smart and will return to within inches of the launch point when everything is right. Once airborne though, a simple gust of wind can and will blow them way off course or out of a holding position quickly. There are apps you can download to help you prepare for flights. Weather conditions, air traffic, etc. One other important thing to consider is your proximity to any airport. By law you're required to get permission to fly if you're within 5 miles. State or Federal parks are completely off limits. Since the public has a negative view of drones still, especially parents who are concerned people use them to spy on kids, I would accompany your son anywhere outside of known safe zones, like your back yard. You can also get him and yourself a high visible vest that states on the back, he is operating a done, not to interfere. There are some serious assholes out there. Luckily the public's perception is slowly changing with the advent of drone use for emergency services, emergency recon intelligence and SAR operations as of late.

It's a very fun and rewarding hobby that can also be used to teach responsibilities. Once he really gets into it you can upgrade to goggles and then everything changes.

    Lol. You’re doing well then.

Last minute, wife and I decide to front some money for a game, grand prize was a 10$ ticket. My wife hates buying tickets, and this was probably the first time in a few years she bought one. The winner that got the ticket was my cousins daughter. Scratched it, and won $50. I laughed and said to the wife, the only time you buy a ticket, and it wins.
