Isn’t that normal since these Lexus engines prefer hi revs?

Get the Tune. 1.05 should be released "soon." Skip the TRD intake and get the @G Tek Fab mod - I have it. Easy to install and every bit the equal to the Toyota over priced intake.

Toyota stuck a car engine in a truck. So it’s not normal.

Yah I see your point, but even my dads F350 with the 460 holds revs going over a mountain. I think going over a mountain at 3200 rpms is pretty normal considering my other Tacoma revd higher doing the same chore and it weighed a lot less

There’s a difference between a mountain and a slight inclined overpass.

My 4Runner only downshifts on one bridge on this trip we make regularly.

The Tacoma downshifted on every single overpass.

But the plus side of 1.05:

    - it didn’t get stuck in the gear it drops to
    - MPG gain of about 2 MPG
    - doesn’t downshift from 6>5 when passing an 18 wheeler.

Did the same thing yesterday. Been sitting on the order since I broke the ECU attempting the B04 update (later got that to work). Downloaded a Win10 ISO from MS. Installed on my 2016 MBP with bootcamp using an old Win8 key I had. Now I don't have to worry about tying my work laptop to the tune.

FYI to those not in the know. Bootcamp is a dual boot utility that Apple provides with drivers. It runs Window on the bare metal with its' own dedicated disk partition. A reboot is required to switch between OSX and Win10. Not as convenient as a VM but that already burned me once.

I see. Makes sense. I really want to compliment my taco with a 4Runner. Everyone likes me and they are Toyota’s pride and joy vehicle

I am considering the same thing. Wife needs a new ride and I am stuck between a new 4runner, Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 diesel or a slightly used GX460. We passed a 4runner a few minutes ago and she was talking about how "pretty" it was, so........lol.

I sold my Leer cap (it came with my truck) and got a softopper… it only weighs 30lbs :p

It's a good option if you still need the convenience a cap provides. Costs a lot less too!

I'd disagree with the last statement, respectfully of course.
I can't put a rtt on a soft topper. Or a prinsu, or a canoe. And someone can't break in to it with a pocket knife.
    To my knowledge.

Every AT vehicle downshifts when necessary. I think the Tacoma’s shifts may feel more pronounced because
1.the exhaust and engine noise are much more audible inside the cab than any vehicle I have owned in the last 20 years.
    2. The transmission does not shift as smooth as a car.

I drove my wife’s 2016 V6 Accord tonight over the same stretch of highway I drive daily and paid close attention to the tachometer when ascending hills. 2,500-3,000 after a downshift - same as my Tacoma.

My wife drives the other vehicle, it’s a Subaru crosstrek. The GX’s are nice my neighbor has one outfitted to the teeth

Flashed 1.04r 91 again truck feels so much better it seems like it defaulted back to stock after a few months of running the tune.

Haha well, you can mount a RTT on custom bed rack that goes above the softopper. I never kept anything too valuable in my bed anyway... so yes the softopper does suffer from security compromises. Breaking the rear window on a Leer cap is fairly easy as well.... but certainly not as easy as unzipping or cutting a soft topper lol.

I mean, it's as easy as breaking in to the cab of a truck. Any $5 hammer can break in to any window, cab or shell. I personally prefer the shell. Not knocking the soft toppers.

This exactly. My wife's MDX, it executes perfect rev matched shifts. I also think Honda's shift logic is 1000x better than Toyota's; it lets high revving engines rev and doesn't insist hold onto gears where there's no power. On the Tacoma, I prefer it downshift from 6th to 4th on the highways. So much smoother and quieter at 3000rpm than 2100rpm. The drone and buzz from the engine between 2100 and 2500 rpm kills me.

Yep. S4 sometimes achieves better gas mileage if I’m attentive enough to keep my speeds below 45mph. Lugging this power train doesn’t increase efficiency.
