Somebody school me on AWD vehicles (GM specifically). The vehicle we want is available in FWD or AWD, but most of the ones in the trim we want are AWD. Any reason you would NOT want AWD in a vehicle you plan to own for 10+ years?

If it’s a FWD car offered in AWD then it’s almost (not always) guaranteed a transaxle which means everything is housed in the fwd style transmission and then you’ve got a driveshaft and rear diff with cv’s. Minimal added maintenance.

But definitely get the AWD. It’s like asking “should I buy a 2wd or 4wd?” Even if you don’t think you’ll ever need it, it’s nice to have and will get used eventually.

Cool. Y’all are making me feel better. Zero experience with AWD. Probably will be a smart move for the one ice storm we get a year. Especially since the truck is perma-locked all the way around.

What model in particular are you looking at. My brother in law is a service writer for a GM dealership. I'll ask him and I can give me an honest opinion based off what he sees come in to the shop.

That'd be awesome. Thank you. Looking for a 2015-16-17 GMC Acadia.

On a separate note, if you need to sell something, Facebook Marketplace is HOT. I had my wife's car on CL & LSN for a week with almost zero interest shown. Put it on FB marketplace and the calls started immediately. Less than 24 hours later it was sold at asking price. Should have asked more. haha.

Except for the sellers. I've messaged about ten people about camper tops and have only gotten on response.

Can't say for GM but in 08, wife totalled a Camry (FWD) and we replaced it with Subaru Legacy (AWD). Even with all-season tires in the snow, it took real intentional effort to get that Legacy sideways.
And having a FWD SUV currently (Highlander), I wouldn't hate driving it and be looking to sell it if it was AWD.

One more carter. I can say for a small vehicle the terrain are very roomy. My wife has one we carried 4 household worth of presents from gallatin to culleoka to clarksville in it the last 2 days. Never used more than a tank of gas. Screenshot_20181226-103706_Messages.jpg

Thanks for that! 3rd row is a must. He doesn’t have a recommendation for that category does he? Haha.

I love them, but wife doesn’t. She likes the car/minivan feel, not the luxury truck feel.
