Am I crazy? Considering trading my '18 F250 for '19 Tacoma Off Road

Completely agree. Had bad experiences with Dodge pickup and minivan. Trouble from day 1 on the minivan, lots and lots of little niggling things like things like doors that didn't fit together very well, alarms that kept going off, and the Dodge truck's engine disintegrated at 25MPH and only 17K on it.

Ram claims their trucks are selling fast, well, if you give quad cabs away for $169/month leases, yeah, people are going to jump. If they were well regarded, they wouldn't have to stoop to such discounts, they'd be selling on their own... hmmm...just like Toyotas!

If Jeep didn't have their legendary reputation, they'd be dead by now, for what Chrysler is doing to the brand. Nephew bought a new one, and guess what? Very soon suffered from little niggling things like non-working electrical switches and the hood release broke off when they tried to open the hood after they got it home!

 

Haha. Once you have a long bed it’s hard to settle for anything else.
Also sandwiched a Camaro in when I had the diesel. Bought it in the winter for less than trade in value, as the the dealer had been sitting on it for months and then traded it in on the Tacoma. Only had the Camaro for 8 months. Turns out they are super fun but not practical at all, about what I thought when I bought it. Haha! Once the kids are older and out of the house I’ll get another or a corvette. The 2020 twin turbo corvette should be affordable in 10-15 years.

So far I really like it. Guided outta a g3 and a custom jet up north. Moving down south I just didn’t want a fiberglass boat. This x19 handles these southern lakes better then I ever would have imagined. It fishes really well also. plenty of speed and handles like a dream. I tell everyone it’s like a Ferrari on the water!

 

Yeah so much smoother ride and a helluva depreciation.

haha, actually I’m living in the present dude. I OWN a 2015 Durango with 52k miles that has already had a new transmission put in. Have a buddy with a 2010 Ram....same story......an aunt with a 2014 Jeep.....guess what, same story!!! Bottom line is they still suck. Regardless of the manufacturing change you speak of.

 

Went from a deleted 6.7 powerstroke to a 18 Cement TRD OR. Takes some getting use too I won't lie. I understand the super duty was a lot larger but the extra 200 hp and 500 ft lbs of torque really will make you realize what your going too. Over all though I'm in the same boat. Drive by myself most of the time and the truck works out great. Saves on mileage and lower maintenance cost. Its a great truck, will go anywhere I need it to go and looks great...not to mention the coldest A/C of any truck out there haha

 

I did the opposite (but went from midsize to a half ton, not a 3/4 ton.). I had a 2nd gen and loved it, but didn't want a 3rd gen. For one, the MSRP of a truck similar to my 2011 had increased significantly. Second, the 3.5 didn't exactly have adoring reviews and changing to that engine didn't really help mileage all that much.

Now that full sizes get such great mileage and are about the same price in the end, I have a hard time justifying a midsize. My F-150 is a little more cumbersome to park than my Tacoma, but I live in a pretty rural area where it isn't a big deal.

Do any of you guys feel that adding weight and big tires helped the shifting problem a little? Maybe the encreased drag required more throttle on average? I suspected doing those mods might help as far as keeping the tranny in a lower gears longer but I was afraid that once the throttle leveled out it would still try to hold onto the high gears too long. I once hauled a 700 pound cabinet in my bed and it seemed to behave a bit better.
As I’ve said, I had a nice looking Inferno TRD OR but I was afraid to put money into mods considering my objections to the transmission behavior. I’m happy my current T4R performance but I miss the looks of the Taco.

I dont buy cars as investments. Invest in something that appreciates instead you'll be happier you did.

 

Correct. More then what 75 percent of taco owners or even diesel owners hual. Anything under 5k a taco is fine. 10k stick to a half ton. 10k plus on a weekly basis buy a 3/4 ton.

I'm not your accountant do what you want. Or buy your car cash money and dont worry about it. Or lease and never worry. Also who can say what the depreciation of a vehicle that isn't even out yet is?

 

That’s what they are meant to do! I had 95 single cab 12v that I should have never sold. 99 24v with the dreaded 53 block that never cracked, and 06 5.9 common rail. Fantastic engines, trucks are pure shit though.

 

I went from a minivan to a Taco, I thought I would miss the interior space, I really don’t. Same situation as you, wife, 6yo, no problems fitting us and stuff. I got the factory tonneau and lust leave my ladder and tools in the back where before they were inside the van with us.
