The one I owned got 14-16 city 17-19 highway towing heavy 8-12K it was usually 10-12. 2014 Ram 2500 6.4 with 4:10 gears. The truck has a cylinder shutoff on the highway empty that allows it to get decent mileage for a HD gas truck. The main reason I didn’t buy a Tundra was because my HD ram got better mileage..lol

Honestly have little to no knowledge on the latest tacomas and fords (imagine both f series and toyotas plenty reliable enough overall).

But used to drive around my relative's 2014 f250s diesel superduty to help with work (until he got locked up for some bad dwi) and personally absolutely hated it as it felt sluggish like steering a boat even when hauling nothing. Strong at towing, but felt like a slug dragging its feet.

Not sure how the 2014 would differ from the newer models though. Also to be honest I think Im just more of a 80s-early 2000s truck size person, as even the 2nd/3rd gen tacos ive tried were just okay to me.

Edit: also old man has a 2014 tundra and that thing is decent but drinks way to much gas for my tastes.

That's BS. If you don't tow on a daily basis and stay reasonable you won't have an issue. Do you even tow anything?20180930_122355.jpg

5,000lbs through the mountains and no issues.

Was a Ford man for 20+ yrs. Bought my first Tacoma in 2013 it was an 08 Tacoma trd OFF ROAD and absolutely loved it and it held its value better than any Ford I had traded in.Traded for a 17 Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD and have never looked back. It does what I need it too with no problems. Tows my flats boat or 6x14 enclosed trailer just fine. Just my 2 cents worth.

Get what you need to do what you need to do. The Tacoma is an awesome truck and if it fits the bill, do it!
I recently had to trade mine to get in a bigger truck, but it was because I needed the bigger truck for work. One day, I won't have to transport 4-5 grown men for two hour long drives or need the bigger bed and I'll be back in a Taco, but today has different demands.

My 2017 Taco drags my pop up camper (3,500+ lbs loaded) without a problem and can still get 17 mpg running 70 mph. If you are pulling a LOT more weight and frequently, you might need something more heavy duty.

My favorite is to watch people buy a F250 with the PowerStroke and never pull anything. Sure looks cool though.

    Apple's and orange's. I own both 02 tacoma and 02 f350
Powerstroke tows like a champ, gets better fuel mileage, has the turning radius of a school bus, intimidates tailgaters
Taco much more fun offroad, fits anywhere, nice in the city, fun to drive(manual trans)
I would rate them about equal as far as difficulty to work on, diesel always costs more to maintain. Taco wins for the daily driver by a small margin. I don't drive either one everyday though. Once the mod bug bites neither one is cheap. If I could only have 1 for daily duty I would get a f150 or tundra

Yes I am sure, there are always going to be some failure in any machine and yes that includes the Toyota's. I only look at repair records and you made a blanket statement fresh from the 1990s

He's getting between 15- 17 mpg, 13 mpg towing. I'm lucky to hit 15 in my tacoma.

Moving it to the next field about 10 miles away. Tractor and baler are too long to fit on my trailer connected

That's not bad mpg towing, my old f150 ecoboost would get 8mpg towing 10k ,18mpg empty

granted he babies it to to get over 15mpg. Towing his work trailer he averages 13mpg which is pretty good. My tacoma has 256 Cooper stt pros and I have a CVT tent. I should see over 15mpg in it. My 07' FJ got better then my tacoma gets, and everyone knows how aerodynamic they are.

Zero issues with it so far. My 16' has been the worse Toyota I've had.

Wow. I did not anticipate to bring up such great discussion. Thank you for the perspective and debate.

    A few questions asked above.
What do I do? - I work from home for the most part. Long drives to customer or airport. That being said I have put 20K on the clock on the F250 since purchasing in March. I'm just a computer geek by career. I enjoy getting outdoors. Skiing and camping with my family. We live in a pretty rural area. Not in AL but in NC. War Eagle! Like the idea of possible overlanding.:bikewhoops:
Towing-This is where I perhaps made a mis-judgement. I have not towed as much or as heavy as I would liked in the past year. I have a Kubota L2501 (8000 lbs at most). Just would be towed locally. This could be towed with my wife's Sequoia if needed. Towing would surely be easier in the F250.
Money hit for trade - I could sell myself or trade. No impending event that I have to move. I received a good discount so loss would be minimized.:ballchain: I own most of this and only have a small note on it.
Longer trips - My wife's Sequoia would fit the bill. My F250 has been filling that role since purchased.
Other Trucks - Just don't really have the desire for other 1/2 ton. Tundra just seems too much like my wife's Sequoia. Ram has a great new truck, but I am concerned about FCA quality. I keep my rides a long time. I kept my last car for 11 years with flawless ownership. I would contribute it to being a maniac about maintenance. I do not punish my stuff either. Being drawn to the Tacoma is also bit of an X factor that I cannot describe. There seem to have been issues this past year but perhaps certainly worked out for the 2019 model.

Again thanks for the input. You all are awesome!:cheers:

You’re not crazy for wanting a smaller truck. I had a Ford F-250 Super Duty diesel, with a 6” lift and 36’s and it was awesome, but a pain in the ass to park and gas mileage was awful.

I sold it for a 1st gen Tacoma and now own a 2018 TRD OR and am super happy!

I wouldn’t go back to a huge truck again.

Picking up mine tommorow. I bought the f250 cuz it looks bad ass. Moved to city. Parking it is a pain and roads are narrow. If I didn't move I would not have bothered to look for another truck. Im gonna try a DCSB manual and hopefully not regret it but if I do my wife will take it and I'll go 1/2 ton. I'm in construction so I haul tools and material. 3/4 ton was overkill 20181221_125634.jpg 20180603_154248.jpg
