So it’s only going to be me and a friend. We’re going to make a quick day trip out there but we’re only in one vehicle (my Tacoma) so I was thinking of doing some really light and easy snow wheeling. Nothing crazy, I know off-roading alone in the snow can be dangerous.

    Any recommendations?

I would go in to big bear via Clark's grade if possible. Start off in 7 oaks off highway 38 I believe.

Holcomb is good. Just drive around for a while and take some of the trails that branch off. Another great trail is Radford camp road. Might be a little hairy with snow on the ground though.

Thanks you guys, seems like I’ll hit Holcomb if it isn’t closed due to the shutdown.

I was just thinking of traffic.... going up 38 you can pull off on to dirt at the bottom of the hill and meet up with the Clark's grade entrance and make your way up to skyline dr.

The yellow star is a entrance that will take you up to 1n16 (the blue line) which leads to Clark's grade
Coordinates are in the top right corner. Screenshot_20181225-220412_ViewRanger.jpg

Never been down Clark’s grade, but it leads to 3n16?

1n16. This is the south side
3n16 is on the north side by crab flats (I think) going toward big bear. That side, you would detour at green valley lake and find your back road in that way.

If you're looking for easy snow stuff then you'll want to stick to the fire roads, because even they can get tricky with a lot of snow up there. If you start at Green Valley Lake exit off the 38 highway going up the mountain, that takes you back to a whole network of fire roads that spread out across the entire mountain, many of which lead to some of the tougher trails but those are clearly marked. Stick to the main fire roads and you can still have some fun up there in the snow
