Sorry brother, not feeling that today. My suggestion is look into how they work, read more than the advertised figures.

So you won't tell me how I'm wrong because you're not "feeling that"? Are you being serious right now?

I like the history on the 4 banger also.

IMO, the 3.5 is too much of a car engine and doesn't really go until 3,500 rpm. The auto tranny fights this with a lot of downshifting. Updates have made it better, but I don't think the 2.7 is a bad option at all.

I went easy on mine for the first 500 miles. Since then, it's been driven like a stolen vehicle.

I have no problem keeping up with my son's 2015 with the 4.0 when we go up I-70 in the mountains. YMMV.

I get it, the 4 is not the right engine for everyone. Heck it might not be the right engine for me. But I think it is. I guess the main reason for me posting this was my initial thoughts on driving the 4 cylinder. I really was expecting far worse. It is absolutely not an engine and transmission combination for anyone who likes to 'zip' around. Nor is it appropriate for those who want to haul/tow like most 1/2 ton pickup trucks can. If you have a 5000# or heavier gvwr trailer, the Tacoma with either engine should not be your first choice, advertised tow capacities not withstanding. I can see where some folks would be unhappy if they are running larger diameter and heavy tires with a lift and pulling a trailer up and down mountain roads. All that said, I don't think the 4 is as bad as some are making it out to be. I actually kind of liked it.

Yeah, I kinda like mine also.....so many people hate on the 4cylinder but obviously there is still demand for it or Toyota wouldn't be making them anymore. I bought my 4 banger for what I NEED it for...not for someone else's needs.

l remembersitting in the engine bay, on the inner wheel well taking off the carb, distributor and intake manifold so we could put on an Edelbrock aluminum intake and rebuild the Quadrajet. Sat and drank some beer while doing it too.
    Thise were the days

I think a lot of the 4c sales are going to corporate fleet where they are looking for the least expensive alternative in a reliable small work truck.

I have a v6 in my Tacoma. But I've never thought of hating the I4. If it serves your purpose and you're happy with it. Who else should care about what engine you have. I had a ranger with a 4 cylinder. I loved the truck. I was very happy with it, and it did everything that l wanted it to do.
Thumbs up to 'all' Tacoma owners

I test drove a 4 cylinder (double cab) and was also pleasantly surprised with its performance. Much better performance than my previous 2000 S-10 (extended cab) 2.2L 4 cylinder.

I don't know if you can answer this but ......

How did you drive it? Meaning did you notice that you had to press the accelerator a bit more than other makes/models? Or did you just get in and drive like you would any other truck?

My 2.7 2nd gen was fine. The 3.5 reminds me of the 2.7 just with more in reserve if you put your foot in it. Which is nice too.

IMO it was perfect with a MT in a regular cab 4x4. So wish Toyota still made that configuration because it's really all I need for my DD.

Real world, the 2.7 gets way better gas mileage. Just driving to work on average i would get 23-26mpg everyday. Real world and on paper are diff

My test drive was six months ago. From what I can recall, maybe there was slightly more accelerator input, but I feel the V6 also requires slightly more accelerator input to get things going.
