Heh! wow I am really surprised at all the Anti K&N filter and that the "stock" filter is so much better hype .... OK the Stock Filter is better for those who are not able to follow direction they are better off keeping the stock lower air flow filter in place.
And for those who are Willing to take the time to actually read and follow the directions for the care and maintaining a K&N filter it certainly will not make you replace your engine (as someone stated) heh just read a few posts above .. and it will not make you replace your Mass Air Flow Sensor again that was stated here somewhere.. However if you do not follow directions like you over Oil the filter the Oil Will get on the Mass Air Flow Sensor and cause it to incorrectly read, so a simple fix to that is clean it with electrical contact cleaner now that was hard eh?

First thing is after you wash the K&N Air Filter and let it fully dry then you want to spray a fine mist of the oil on front side where the air comes in not the exit side and let it sit so the fabric fully adsorbs the oil do not soak the filter with oil that is all there is to it just a fine mist of oil is all it takes.

I been running K&N filters for 18 years now on all my vehicles and the only time I had issues is when I put way too much oil on the filter so yes I had to clean my MAF sensor with electrical contact cleaner (you can buy MAF cleaner too but it is same stuff). I will not say that it gives you better Hp or anything else but the environment that I run in at times I would have to replace the paper filter way too many times or have it suck in so yup paper filter are junk. I have 2 K&N filters for the off road run days just change out and clean the other when time permits.

Hit the nail on the head. Take 45 minutes out of your day every 10k miles and clean the thing. Most come with the kits to clean them when you buy them. It includes enough degreaser and oil for a long, long time. I've been trekking the dusty deserts of Western Pennsylvania for 26,000 miles now with my filter and am very happy

All I saw were 10,000 unique web pages explaining how K&N filters were blowing up engines left and right

10 second search, multiple hits. First link I clicked. I'm not tossing in my opinion here, because who cares. Just want people to research themselves and not let some else decide what kind of filter you put your engine to keep dust and dirt out

The truth lies in the fact that as ANY filter gets blocked it does a better job.
If you want to know the whole story on filtration, and be properly educated on what is best.
You may want to see this video, before someone has it band for obvious reasons.
Engine filtration is a multi billion dollar industry...
Some hope you never learn the truth..

Had a K&N on my non-stock carb '73 Ford Courier. No issues. Put one on my '93 Toy, switched it out after reading about a paper filter was better at filtering. Did have a check engine light come on after running it a couple years or more. Bought some cleaner for the sensor, end of problem. Toy dealer I think wanted $400 for a new sensor, online was better, cleaner was under $12.

I had k and n for almost all of my 88k miles. Just cleaned my throttle body and MAF. they looked just like everyone else's.

I found the throttle more responsive w K and N and the engine idles lower. I would run it on any vehicle, but I'm a minority in that opinion here.

    I like mine.

You're trying to tell me that engineers with 10x the budget and no noise restrictions CAN'T make a better filter? Cmon...

There was a guy on here that had run a 3rd Gen on the Dyno with a stock paper filter and no filter at all. The truck lost power with no filter, so even if a K&N lets more air pass thru there is nothing to gain on our truck unless as you said had a tune to go with it.

Exactly on point. So many people get red-in-the-face over this discussion and that K&N, TRD, etc. couldn't know as much as the weekend mechanics here on TW.

To the OP, spend your money how you want to. The last thing is to come to TW and look for validation.

The MAF sensor concern is a non issue IMO. There is absolutely no way oil droplets could ever make it through the secondary carbon filter that is meant to not even let fuel vapour through. I ran an oiled K&N in my 2nd gen for almost 10 years without issue. However on my new 3rd gen i will stick to factory Toyota paper filters.

All of the filters will flow more air than the engines needs.

The only thing I've ever noticed with a K&N drop in on any vehicle I owned was more intake noise. No more power or mpg.
That noise may be cool if you're young, but I'm getting old now and can do without it. LOL

I have used K&N air filters since 1974. I was 12 years old and bought one for my 1974 Yamaha GT-80A Mini Enduro. I have been using them on all of my cars and motorcycles for 44 years with no problems. I installed one on my 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport and it runs great. You just need to read the instructions on the K&N Recharger Kit ($12.90 on Amazon) when servicing your K&N Air Filter.Gary's 1974 Yamaha GT-80.jpg

Never had an issue with K&N ever. i have the OEM filter for now and not interested in messing with anything after market for filters. never saw hp gains using a drop in. if using a CAI you def need a tune with it.

Garbage = not following instructions then blaming the product.................The molecular difference between cotton gauze and paper will not be the first thing that kills your vehicle anyway. Also delusional to think any performance gain is to be had. All they are is reuseable. Either keep chasing and buying one every time it's dirty or buy one filter, wash it and recharge it properly (if oiled version) and not buy any more.
