My 2006 Tacoma trd sport is getting 12 mpg and it has 200,000 miles on it.

    I'm currently getting 12 mpg.

    I have
    1. cleaned air filter
    2. cleaned MAF
    3. new spark plugs
    4. removed rear CATS
    5. replaced fuel pump and filter
    6. replaced coil packs
    7. adjusted parking breaks
    8. new tires and alignment
    9. clean throttle body
    10. verified air box is clear
    11. did compression test, all good
    12. verified no gas leaks.
The truck runs great, no engine codes.

    Does anyone have any suggestions.

I've done most of that and still only get 12.9 on average. I've given up and accepted this reality

    What engine?

How long have you owned it?

If you've owned a while, what MPG have you regularly gotten in the past?

Are you calculating by hand, or are you a 'miles per tank' guesser?

Where do you live? Terrain, temps and fuel types matter.

    What size wheels/tires?

    Stock gearing?

    Auto or manual?

Is this city or interstate MPG?

My 2013 w/ armor, 32" tires, etc (see link if interested) gets 14 around town and 17-20 conservative highway driving. I'll get 21 driving 45 locally w/ no traffic. I've got 94,000 miles. If you are trying to hypermile it and still at 12 something is wrong.

Do u have a lift and what tire and rim combo do u have. Winter gas blend will drop your mileage a bit. I have an 09 TRD sport with P265/70/75 BF Goodrich Rugged terrains on FN TRD Pro wheels and the best I get is around 16.5 mpg in the summer and 15 in the winter. I have said this before and will keep on saying it these trucks like to drink the Gogo juice especially when you go over 75 mph. It is a 4x4 so you will not get the best mileage . If you are lifted and different mods your gas mileage will go down. Other than that you should not be getting that poor mpg unless you have a heavy foot, towing or hauling a lot of extra weight.

Are you running larger than the stock size tires? If you are, the odometer will run slower and make you think the mileage is less. However, in my case running a 1" larger diameter tire, the mileage figure when adjusted is about 1 mpg better... So when I get 14 mpg using gallons to refill and my odometer, it is really about 15 mpg when adjusted for the correction... about 4%. Stock is 265/70-16 (31") and I am running 265/75-16 (32") tires. Heavier tires will also take some fuel economy away as well as a load in the truck.

Check air fuel ratio sensors. Actually.. replace them if they are original.

These trucks get horrid fuel economy. That is just reality.

You removed the rear cats and don't have a check engine light/code? That doesn't make sense, removing the cats would trigger the catalytic inefficiency codes immediately...and probably hurt your MPGs. Unless you bypassed the code somehow with the URD sensor bypass or spark plug socket trick.

Hopefully you have larger than stock tires and a lift cuz that would seem really horrible mileage for stock. My mileage with 255 85 16 pizza cutters isn't quite that bad. Also if you have non stock size tires make sure you're calculating mileage properly... like you need to multiply your number by a certain amount. I think someone mentioned for 285 75 16 you need to multiply by 1.1-1.2

There are some pretty helpful people on here and we all need more information as Clearwaterbill has stated, and I'll add:
Cleaned air filter have you tried a brand new one?
    Injectors?
    Fuel pump and filter?
    Is your transmission shifting properly?
    Are your brakes hanging up?
Have you added any new "modifications "?
    Rear axle within maintenance specs?
    Front wheel bearings good?
Are you monitoring your tire pressure? What tires did you buy that are "new"? Did your mileage go up or down after the tires?

We really need more information to help troubleshoot with you.

Might be just winter gas from crappy source. Have you tried higher octane and different gas station? Another issue , is your thermostat working properly, if it's stuck your truck might not warm up enough staying in choke mode. If your taking short drives your truck might not warm up fully so you will always burn more fuel.

    Winter gas is likely.

My truck is pretty stock and 12 city is pretty much where I'm at.

+1 for this. Stock O2 sensors start to go bad around 125-150K. You will not see a light for it either.

It sounds as if your truck is fine mechanically. Like others have said, it’s likely a combination of your driving habits combined with terrain etc...it is what it is with these trucks.

Oi. I get than that with my 2500, while it has the 8.5 Fisher XV2 on the nose and 700lbs of ballast in the bed. Occasionally it'll do better than that, too.

Not in my experience. I have had a number of vehicles with high mileage where the O2 sensors have become slow and ineffective. What happens is they don't effectively respond to O2 changes and, thus, will create a richer overall AFR. That type of performance 'failure' will never show up as a faulty O2 sensor because it still thinks it is working. Seen it many times in mine and others vehicles.
