Reading this thread makes it seem that way, but in reality it's the vocal minority who need a custom tune.

I'd like to make the starting point as closely as possible.
Not a whole lot needs some touch up, idle , 1>2, 4>5 dance, and some trucks getting stuck in 4th. Won't be long.

Maybe he should start each tune with some digital Prozac for these skitsofrantic trucks.

I don’t think the Atkinson function is problem. It seems to be dialed-in on the Sienna, highlander and Lexus models. I think the Lexus V8s have Atkinson cycles now(the LC500 and RCF).

The Lexus V8 has a similar power output of the Coyote 5.0, but the LC and the RC get better fuel economy.

I think the Tacoma was the first vehicle to have the Atkinson V6, and that’s why it’s a little quirky. The other models seem to do alright.

Or how about be patient and let him do what he seems right. Why would he want to custom tune every single person with a kit? If he did it that way, the you would probably see a fee for custom tunes instead of him offering it.

no it's not in the manual, it's just how things are on all these new electronic vehicles. Even the hi-end Lexus and Infiniti recommend warming up for the electronics and transmission. I don't know why people have such a problem with doing this, there is no cons to doing it

By the time i get settled in the truck, it's been about that long anyway...never consciously thought about waiting any period of time though... But I can see the wisdom of waiting a bit.

same here, and you can actually hear the engine change after the short period of time. Letting the cylinders warm up and get lubed so that the piston rings warm to the cylinder wall is never a bad idea either

During the first 15-20 seconds of start up the truck runs -10 * ignition retard and higher throttle / rpm target to warm up the catalysts as fast as possible. If you jump in and drive immediately on starting up, when the engine is still cold the idle will be all over the place. I've seen this on stock tune. This is only until it reaches temp, so if you start up, drive for 1 min, then go back to park the idle will again go up and down.

    It's a combination of things.

    1) High revving motor that makes power up high in RPM band
    2) Tall Gears with double over drive
    3) heavy vehicle from factory that tends to be modified
    4) complex ECU logic

Plus add in all the fun EPA regulations and things that get cut due to cost or deadlines to be met.

Can't find anything in the owners manual about warming up the engine, but...

I implore you to take off for a couple more days. As much as I would like 1.05 to drop it’s more important for you to take time with your family especially since this tune has taken you far away for so long
