I totally agree....people may use more oil than on the filter, not let it dry or not clean it when they really need to or should. thats why they have MAF issues. Even with stock filters you can get MAF issues down the road. dirt gets through.

I have never had any issue related to intake or filtering using a K&N on anything.......that being said, I prefer and have aFe dry flo S on the truck because it gets washed, dried & put back in the enclosed Volant filter box it lives in. No need for oiling. I run the K&N tube from TB because it has all the mounting points for doodads that came off oem intake as well as a support towards the end to hold up filter, connected to Volant filter box with clear lid that breathes thru oem fenderwell opening and oem baffle inside fender with the aFe filter.......I dubbed it KVA intake - best parts of 3 different intakes.

The cabin filter is K&N electrostatic - love the recharge fresh air smell it puts out for several months after cleaning it.

It is cleaner looking with less clutter underhood, never have to buy another air filter, can see when it needs cleaning while enclosed away from underhood temps, breathes thru same opening as oem, no accordion shaped rubber hose to fail from age like oem, allows access to coils/plugs without removing intake, isn't noisy and most importantly, fulfills what I wanted to have there....................it does enough for me to have taken the time to do it that way.

I also like dry aFe filter. Been using it in my German cars with no problems. Also, naturally aspirated engines will benefit more from less restrictive filters than turbo charged engines do.

This is also a time thing for me.....always have soap/water on hand at house - oem replacements, not so much. Keeps from having to burn gas/money/time to go fetch one when you don't proactively restock wear items for all your cars so there's always one on the shelf.............I only do that with oem oil filters.

I'm sorry, but all the science / witchcraft in the world isn't going to change facts... K&N is simple the best thing going. It comes with decals! Just stuffed the filter in and I've got the stickers on my front fender. They really set off the "Slick50" and "Summit Racing"!

Oh c'mon man, where is the love :)

Seriously, haven't had any serious problems with my VAGs for a long time. In fact I had more problems with my Acuras than VWs

I put a K&N tube on my 2004 4cyl so I could reach the oil filter without crawling under my truck.

Stock air box gets the same cold air too and is encased. Like I said, doesn't do anything more than stock really but if it works for you then that's all you need.

I know what stock is...........here, maybe you missed an earlier post I made................see bolded below.

" Also delusional to think any performance gain is to be had. All they are is reuseable. Either keep chasing and buying one every time it's dirty or buy one filter, wash it and recharge it properly (if oiled version) and not buy any more."

The only claims I make vs oem is not having to run to store to get a new filter when dirty, liking the way it looks vs. oem, being able to see if filter is dirty without taking anything apart and not having to remove intake to deal with plugs or coils. That is what works for me.

I think we can all agree that the K&N looks cool but adds nothing unless you're upgrading the fuel map to match the added air volume.
If you bother to read up on air filter tests (ISO 5011), it is quite clear that K&N are not as efficient in cleaning the intake air.
It is more important to change the filter when it has reached the end of its useful life more than anything else.
Replacing it any earlier needlessly throughout the vehicles life is wasteful and costly.
This is where the K&N fits in well...4 paper filters in 100k...or 1 k&n ...same price...
If you keep the truck more than that, this is where there is a cost savings,..and less landfill as well.
Most paper filters are made offshore..
Last I remember K&N were still made in the states...so jobs are also concerned...

    Just my $0.02
