Tried that, buddy heater still barely works with it. These are known not to ignite and have problems, its quite common actually.

 

I got this guy instead of a Buddy. Didn't want to deal with the usual issues that the O2 sensors on the Buddys create, like lighting/staying lit at high altitude.
Be smart and keep the windows cracked (which you're gonna do with a Buddy anyway), and pair it with a good CO detector...

I stand corrected the top of the bull bar is 49” off the ground. Water was lapping over that. Figure in lower pressure tyres and a small If any bow wave and that was 45”+ water depth. Thankfully i installed that snorkel.

 

Also for those whom get the fans, make sure you close it all the way before hitting the hwy. i left mine open apparently an inch. And it bent the rod and flopped over. .

I reattached it and bend the rod back, but it will inly close about 90% and is not
Tight. I’ll see if i can bend the rod more to seal it up. If not its a stop at the nearest rv shop for replacement parts.

Worked well in Baja. No complaints. I worked the truck pretty well in remote areas. Also, sexed up pics of the poverty pack model in fishtacoland.

Technical notes- the cab window doesn't need to be tinted. Weight from frontrunner drawers/water tank, drifter, 129L LRA fuel tank and maybe a few beers and seashells added 1000lbs to the rear (6500lbs total). OME HD + a leaf didn't appear the settle after a week and a half bouncing and rattling around offroad and "on".. since on highway can often be like offroad driving down there. If you have a lot of bedding, stow pillows elsewhere and move cover sides in a few inches for the top to latch perfectly. I have a few ideas for netting shelves and pockets. Ran a bungee across the rear to hold up tent material and have a slice of view out the rear view mirror.

 

You can just slide the bed platform
To the rear of the truck to keep the fabric up, no need for the bungee.

Glad you’e liking the front runner, I bought one as well(think you oicked up ifgys system right?) absolutely love it. Was what i originally wanted and was told It wouldnt fit. So much more useable space then the decked system. Just finished winterized the pump and tank for my trip north. Fyi, you only need one gallon of rv antifreeze to do this. I wasn't sure so bought 3 as i’ve had it need a lot and have had it need barely any the front runner tank basically empties when you pump the water out.

Finishing up here in northern nevada and making my way back north. Was -15 last night (celsisu) my buddy heaters hit and miss basically i’m tossing it here on the way home, i ordered a chinese espar system In canada complete kit is 172 bucks cdn on Amazon for the 2kw system. I’ll try it out. And run it for awhile. Has the mounting plates and the boys idea is basically the same idea I have to mount it.

Now to build the top plate, either a site glass or i’ll plumb in a level monitor into the tank so it gives an alarm when the water is nearing empty.

 

You can't just slide the bed if it's made up with sheets and covers. Would work if you use a sleeping bag or otherwise loose covering. Good idea.

 

Good point. Hadn't thought of that. We were down comforter/sheet people in the vanagon and anticipate the same with the Drifter. Look forward to seeing the 'bungee option' as I anticipate we'll need a similar approach when out in the wild.

 

xplorn - loved the info and pics. Drifter people seem to be awesome photographers. Well, maybe not us, but I love seeing the photos.

 

I’m absolutely horrendous at photography. I let other people do it for me. I also prefer to look through the lense of others when it comes to reflection upon a trip.

 

I beg to differ. I just spent a week in the desert doin just that with my sleeping platform a few weeks again. Flannel fitted sheets and a pendalten blanket. Maybe the material of the sheets has something to do with it’s slickquidity?

Hmmm...did you move both halves so that it caught most of the material which is toward the rear? That seems like it would work. I wonder if the prior poster was saying splitting them apart doesn't work with the sheet on. That would be great if a bungee cord could be avoided.
