Well I certainly need time to sell my truck. But in reality I cannot have two cars in the driveway lol. We have three cars in the driveway now so if I got a 2018 at a good price I need to get them to consumate the current Tacoma. So who knows but I am looking at the 2018s now as we speak.

What is the difference between the axle ratio? I see a truck listing 4.30 and others are 3.91. I presume the lower the better?

Ok. I see that I would like to have the 3.91 axle gears. I filled out the form and it got back to me stating my truck is worth $7600 which is not to too bad but hey it has a new frame!

I am in Alabama and trying to decide between 2018 Tacoma double cab short bed with 17000 miles non-CPO or a new 2019 TRD 4x4 access short bed for around $38 MSLP. I will be paying with cash. I love the color of the '19, but I rather pay closer to $30k. I wonder how much they will come off on the '19? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I go by invoice to determine what the value is. These dealers do not want you to know the value and this is pretty significant to me. You need to find the invoice and then add on stuff. So for the 2018 TRD OR 4 door it is 33456. Obviously as someone alluded to above...the extra cost for the list of stuff adds up appreciably. I have seen them for around 38k for MSRP. Someone in another post said to deduct by 10% for real world value. However I am looking at those TRD's without alot of frills and still getting right at 7% off. I think for your 38k TRD you can probably expect around 35K.
No way would I consider a used vehicle when they are so close in price like the used 2018 and the new 2018. If I was you...I would haggle with the dealer if this used TRD is at a dealer and tell them it is $4K to drive off the lot and add the miles it should even be more. But we all know Tacomas hold their values really well so it is up to you.
But I would invoice everything and then see if its close to 38k and if it is you know they have their numbers right. Then deduct from what the going rate is such as end of year or whatever. Of course I want to pay $30k but these are the 36K value cars...not sure about Alabama.
You should be able to see the going rate for your area and see how much they come off. This can be easily seen from the MSRP/Actual Price but realize their MSRP is not going to be the true value.
And if you are going to pay cash negotiate like heck since they are not making money off interest.

Yeah that 8k is what I am thinking. If I got that that would lessen me having to unload this car.

Also take your current truck to CarMax and see what they will buy it for, the. You at least have that option against the dealer trade in price.

I have sold a couple cars to them and there price has been better than dealer trade it and it’s a painless process. Selling private party sucks and is a time investmement.

Shoot for as close to 8K as they will give you and if you can get the truck for 8-10% off, just do it.
The longer you keep that older truck and try to sell it yourself, the more chance that something will go wrong and then you'll pay to get it fixed and there goes what you saved haggling on the new truck. Not to mention the new buyer knows where you live and can show up 3 weeks later crying that you owe him $600 for a brake job that his mechanic sold him on. Trade it, get the sales tax benefit, and you won't worry a half crazy buyer of your old truck is going to show up and complain.

Oh, and you said you didn't go into a dealership yet. Take nothing you hear by phone text, or email as the truth or 'a deal'. Forget all that you've heard. Go in and say you're ready to buy.

I wasted about 10 days texting and talking by phone to a few dealers. One saleswoman even promised me a certain price on a certain truck. I went in to see her, and she wasn't there. They not only didn't have any truck even close to what she said, they had no info on any deal she was working with me.

I second Carmax. They are fair, quick and easy. Most of the time they give you above value or close to it,better than some dealerships. See what they offer.

Hi Everyone...Just traded in my 2010 Tacoma TRD Sport (with relatively low 72,000 miles, no damage or accidents, leather seats) for a 2019 TRD Sport with Upgrade Package in Cavalry Blue! In terms of Trade In value, I actually got 43% of the list cost of the new truck so, after 9 years, I think I did very well on the trade in. I actually got the max BB value plus some of the dealer incentives they had going on so I think I got around 115% of max BB value. In terms of the trade in value relative to the original truck purchase, my truck actually only depreciated 40%! Picking up the truck tomorrow (Dec 27)...bought in on Dec 23/18.

Not trying to be a dick but that really is just confusing. Actual numbers would be useful, throwing out random percentages isn’t.

Not sure what you guys are thinking but I have NEVER heard of dealers selling a truck for more than what they advertised for. Got it? It is always at their price or less. This post really concerns two things: what is my truck worth and what can I get for their truck. Apparently it is confusing to the last 2 postors...okay I get it...and besides you WILL NEVER know what they bought it for...they ain't never telling lol.

That price seems higher than I am seeing in the Omaha area for a basic OR, but maybe I'm missing something here. The price goes up quickly with add-ons--heck there are some SR5s priced in the high $30's with extras.

I have bought 2 cars from CarMax and find them to be fair and reliable for buying from--no great bargains, but a pretty good guarantee of quality.

However, for buying from me they have never priced a vehicle higher than a dealer. They offered me $2000 less on a BMW Z4 that I eventually sold to a dealer specializing in used BMW/Mercedes. So definitely worth checking out, but don't count on a great price.

I agree about the hassle of selling on your own. I'd give up a bit of $$$ to just trade it in and forget about it.

I just bought my truck a 2019 TRD Sport 4x4 and it is fully loaded with the XSP, Premium Sport Package and what they call the Tech Package which is all the safety items. I was able to get a 0% interest rate through Southeastern Toyota. The packages all add up fast just have to work the dealer. I feel I got a fair price at the end of the day.
