I’m in a line for car wash - I shut off my truck - apparently my truck lights stayed on (the guy ahead of me took forever) my battery was drained because my lights didn’t go off even though I had the lights switched to auto. Called my Toyota dealer he said shut off auto - but then that doesn’t make it auto lights!? Is this a flaw or am I missing something?

Tacomas Gen 1 and Gen 3 both, headlights shut off automatically. But that doesn't mean its "AUTO headlights."

Auto headlights mean it has a sensor, and it turns it ON automatically, depending on daylight.

    I never bought a Gen 2 so don't know

Gen 2 also has auto shutoff only. That said there is/are certain situation(s) where the lights will stay on. @ItalynStylion has some details on that...

Same here with my 2011. If I turn the key to off and the lights were already on, they will stay on unless I manually turn them off or I open the door.
