    As far as buying another welding gas tank, I’ve rented from seaboard for dirt cheap. I think it was like $5?

    Haha I agree. Like I said, I need it for some trees pushing my fence down at home anyway. So I figure kill two birds w/ one stone.

    I’ve always had saws for work so I never worried about getting a “trail saw”. I just throw it in the truck with the other 90% of stuff I bring that never gets used lol. Out of all of my trips there were only two instances that I actually needed to use one but take need with a grain of salt. Like @Chux said there are always other options with a little thinking and a good plan. Getting @JCjeeper out of the ice was the only time I was like holy faak I’m so glad threw the saw in before I left. Don’t let @Subway4X4 fool you that one is only a 25” bar it’s not a giant

    I must ask, could he of been winched our backwards?
    Again saws just make things easier, they aren’t the only way out. Same situation but not to the full extent of picture shown.. @V5ioV and I we’re on a trail and I cracked through an ice puddle, I couldn’t go backwards or forwards.. May have also been the very first time I ever tried to use my treds, obviously not the correct recovery device as it didn’t work. We were super limited on gear being very early in our truck builds. I decided to get the maul I kept on the bed rail and chopped the ice path in front of my truck to be able to drive out.

    Yup. I think @Wheelspinner or @cynicalrider busted out the winch and tried.

    A electric winch can be considered an easy way out as well.

    Come-alongs, the good 'ol Hi-lift with chains are the other, non-easy options available to those that wanna go the tough route.

    Here's the analogy:
    Winch = Chainsaw = Microwave
    Come-along = Axe = Dutch oven

    I've actually used a come-along on a solo winter trail run, stuck on a remote mountain high in the Cascades. No winch on my stupid Durango. Took me all Valentines day and night...

    My wife was pissed when I got home well after a scheduled Valentines dinner. I remember it well.

    In that instance, no. He was out on the ice then fell through so he was boxed in like a possums pecker. The winch wanted nothing to do with pulling through the ice and I originally tried an ax but the ice was 7-8” thick so it was like pissing in the wind. It would have worked but it would be until the next morning before he was out. With the sun setting the saw was by far the best option

    The ice was probably about 6 inches thick, maybe more and he was towards the end of the iced over swamp, we tried to winch him backwards using 2 trucks to anchor mike and he didn't budge, the water below the ice is like 3.5 feet deep and had a soft bottom and when he fell there was no ramp or anything to get him back up, it was also deeper behind him than in front of him, I'm sure we could have scratched our heads for another 45 minutes and figured something out, but all of us, especially jeremy, would rather not do that.

    edit: I might not be remembering this correctly, maybe it was @Wheelspinner that mike winched backwards?

    One time at band camp....
    More than once had to use a come-a-long to get my CJ-5 out of a bad place. Fun times. Probably why a winch was high on the mod list

    Prolly thought it was a girl 'possum since his pecker was boxed in.

    @Rockbaron1 winched @Wheelspinner backwards while I tried to play anchor and it was pulling us both. After that happened we didn't even fuck around with backwards pulls on the ice since there was no solid place to anchor a vehicle to.
