My daughter is a very anxious type by nature. Anxiety + driving is not an ideal combination. She's had her learners permit for nearly a year....almost 6 months more than is required (assuming you have enough hours behind the wheel). But until I feel like she's ready, regardless of the number of hours she's accumulated, she's not getting her intermediate license (next step before a full license).

So far she has not pushed it. I think her initial introduction to driving humbled her some. She was all gung-ho about her license before she even got behind the wheel. But learning to drive has not come easy for her and it's clearly dulled her desire. That's ok by me. I'm in no rush to see her driving on her own yet anyway.

We still plan to "give" the Yaris to her for her 17th birthday in a couple of weeks...along with an upgraded touchscreen head unit. She doesn't have a clue. Should be fun for her.

This is the hard part of parenting, giving them a “license” to adult. It has nothing to do with age, it’s different for everyone. Sounds like you are on it. My son has a learning permit, but isn’t interested in getting a license. I obviously have to stop being his chauffeur and find a WWII tank for him to drive.

I do my siding in the rain. If not the soap dries before I can hit it with the pressure washer. Pro tip, your truck foam cannon is the best damn siding cleaner delivery device ever!

Interesting to read how some Europeans countries handle youthful drivers. They go through many hours of class room and hands-on training on closed courses as well have extensive testing. By the time they hit the actual road they're much more prepared than our kids.

Basically we beta test our kids on the public roads. And we wonder why we have a considerably higher accident and death rate among young drivers compared to many other countries.

Could be like Saudi Arabia. At 7 you hit the streets on a BMX bike, move up to a scooter at 9, and if Allah doesn’t take them then they get a car around 14 or 15.

    Allah doesn’t take nearly enough.

That, and In Europe you can take the bus when you’re impaired, the bus driver will even stop if you have to piss.

If they’re good they can change a tire on their car while driving on two wheels.

I came over a hill on the highway doing about 130 kph to find 4 assholes changing a flat in the middle lane. Three idiots were the pit crew and one was standing on the roof waving his arms. I was able to swerve just in time and not hit them, but it was an “oh shit” moment for sure.

I’ve been on Mopac at rush hour in the rain, and we weren’t even going 13.0 kph.
