Hello, My name is Justin Jordan and I'm a new member as i just recently purchased a Toyota Tacoma. I have the above listed truck with nitto grapplers A/T tires and I'm having some shifting issues. It doesn't want to stay in the highest gear when im above 75mph and it shifts to like 4th gear and my RPMS are at like 3500RPMS and im getting horrible gas millage because of truck not wanting to go into overdrive. I know i have a lift and tires on the truck so i returned back to the dealer and they did a update on the ECM for the transmission and it still is doing the same. It seems as if the shift points need to be changed. I'm currently looking for a good programer that will improve my gas mileage & help it shift more smoothly and stay in the highest gear when i'm cruising on the highway because when it does it i get horrible gas mileage and it will only go into 6th when i'm on a bridge going downhill. It does go into 6th but most of the time it doesn't want to. Any suggestion for Programmers for a 2018? Or any fix in general that will help me fix the shifting issues. I also do not want to void my warranty. I want a programmer that can be taken off the vehicle when i take it into service and one that doesn't leave tracks on the computer where the dealer can see i had a programmer on it.

A computer programmer won’t help. The only thing that will is to buy different gears for your transmission. Good luck

Biggest thing is the tire size. RE GEAR even with 33s my 07 lugged a bit.

Also welcome to the tacoma Horrible gas mileage family.

    True dat!

    Welcome, Jordan!
IMO, this is the biggest fault in the Tacomas. They don't have enough low end torque to hold the OD gear. The transmission update you likely received makes it better, but the lift and tires kind of put you back at the starting point again. Taller gears would help, but just know that the 3.5 likes the revs and performs well there. Good luck!

*Bought an expensive Taco with no research and expects it to work with massive rims (maybe tires)*... physics dont make exceptions.

You effectively changed the gear ratio by putting larger wheels and tires on a vehicle that is known to be shift happy to begin with.
Your setup absolutely should cause the issue you are describing.

    You have three options:

    (1). Regear
(2). Go with a smaller wheel and tire set up.
(3). Put those wheels and tires on a 3/4T diesel and sell the Tacoma.

If you aren't going to re gear and you keep your tire setup only thing i can think of is

    Drive slower
Try ECT with s4 s5 s6 instead of drive
Ov tune there is a thread on it

Also don't even try using cruise control at higher speeds. Just thinking of things that can possibly help.

    1) regear to 4:88s
    2) OVTune
    3) cry about spending $3000 for a truck to drive like it should’ve from the factory
    4) enjoy the truck

It’s not just the tires. Those wheels weigh over 40lbs......way too heavy. Those bro wheels are killing you. Swap them out for a functional combo and you’ll be surprised at the ride and driveability.

And this is why I’m trading in my 17 for a 19 tundra.
