Anyone know of somewhere to take the kids sledding in the vicinity of FS 70, Greenwater, or Snoqualmie pass?

The pass tubing center is sold out tomorrow and I need to get the kids outside and away from Fortnite.

The popular the only sanctioned spot at snoqualmie pass is the iron horse trail head/snopark, however it gets very busy and is unmoderated/unsupervised. It is total chaos at times.

Yeah, it's crazy and the snow park fills up early with people who shouldn't be driving in the snow. I was hoping for something a little more remote.

I was up at tinkham the other day when you and Jim went on that rescue mission. That road is "closed" in the winter season now. They have signs up saying no access and emergency vehicles only. I'm not surprised with all the SAR calls up there over the last few years. I went to the first water bar and turned around.

Maybe I'm getting old but I didn't want to run into an officer of the law and find out what the consequences where for ignoring a sign that ,imo, didn't carry any legal authority. :notsure:

The USFS road conditions page says tinkham is closed between exit 42&47.

The road they are talking about (I believe..) is on the opposite side of i90 as Tinkham. At least the road Im thinking of, goes up to two hiking trails. Hopefully that doesn't mean all land between those exits on either side.

The Denny creek road at 47 that goes up the old wagon route? That road is a Charlie foxtrot full of people snowshoeing or just lookylooing. Or are you thinking of the bandera Rd at exit 45? The road at 42 dead ends maybe 200' to the north. Afaik it's just the USFS Rd on the south side of 90 that connects 42 and 47 that they've closed for safety reasons. All the other roads naturally get closed off with the amount of snow they get and the fact they aren't plowed.

45 is great, but they tend to plow a berm a little bit in to close it. Last time I went up it when it was open there were 4 different cars in ditches at various points, subarus and CRVs thinking they could have some fun on the snow covered ice.

I think it's more so they don't know when to stop and end up over their head. That awd gives them a false sense of security and they think it's just like in the commercials on tv. Or apple maps tells them to drive straight even though there's a 4' wall of snow in front of them ending the maintained road.

Last year there was a FJ cruiser that slid off the road and down a ravine about 60-80', everyone made it out with minimal harm afaik. The year before that there where people criss crossed on a portion of the road and about a dozen or so people where stranded up there requiring SAR to come and rescue them. SAR deemed it unsafe to extract the vehicles at the time due to weather conditions and left the vehicles for better weather. The fj stayed down the ravine for a week or so before a crew of guys setup a multipoint winch operation to bring it back up. The owner was turned down by multiple tow companies he called.

I don't know what his transfer fee is but it's been very convenient for me to drop by his house for new purchases.
