are any dual usb car chargers better than others? I usually just grab one at gas station registers and use them till they break or quit working..

 

Yes. I discovered this in the past. The cheap ones are only really good for charging one thing. if you want to use both ports make sure they are rated for 2.2 amps or whatever the higher rating is for both ports simultaneously, otherwise you'll have both plugged in and it will only maintain your charge in the devices, not charge it.

 

all the ones I'm seeing on Amazon right now are 4.8A.

 

I think that's on the better end as far as charging is concerned. I'd just google what amp draw your devices take to charge and see if it fits your needs.

so the question is since they recommend 1-2A...would a 4.8A charger be too much, or does it "dial itself down" if I only have the 1 thing plugged in?

 

Amp draw solely depends on what the device is needing at the time. If your device requires 2 amps, that's all it will take. So you basically have 4.8 amps available.

Yep! Should be. No problemo.

 

I use the Blue Sea one, it is pricey but it will charge my phone and Go Pro even while recording. It also has a lot of built in features others don't.

oh yeah...I'm not wiring anything in. I'm specifically just looking to use my already installed cigarette lighter port and whatever the other one is called lol.

I hard wired all my accessories, the USB is the one to the left.

 

that one beside the air compressor looks useless

but really though, I don't see the point in wiring up some usb switch when I have the two ports available already that I won't be using for anything else.

 

That switch is only needed for when I have to go around 2nd gens that have let their owners down and cant go any further.

I got the USB port so I don't have to keep buying the Walmart ones that don't last. It also eliminates the plug in USB port so all I have to carry are USB cables.

 

i see the point in it since he doesn't have another switch for the thing, you know better than a blank spot..

 

yeah he doesn't seem to have 2 "cigarette lighter" ports like I do.

what in the fuck is the other one called? just a 12v outlet? idk

 

Yeah I have the cig lighter and the two power outlets below that

 

power outlets? like for standard plugs? I have an inverter I plug up that gives me a couple of those, but haven't needed it yet.
