Nitto Ridge Grappler Review

Yea If i had more OR needs I’d definitely get the E and not look back!! It’s a stronger tire.. but the fact that 95% or more of my driving will be on road, the C seems more appealing to me on paper if indeed it has a better on road ride.. Although it’s confusing that the E is actually lighter by 1.5lbs on Nittos web site.. it actually make no sense at all but 285/75/17C = 65.8lbs 285/75/17E = 64.4lbs.. so am i missing something?? Anyway I’ll figure out..

 

Nitto's, & Toyo's, site have been known to be wrong on actual sizes & weights before.

 

Yea, I also wanted a tire suited for towing heavier loads. When I bought mine all they had were E range. I certainly don't regret it though.

The weights are definitely odd though.

 

How are these tires in the rain? Anyone have issues sliding or no traction?

 

No issues for me in the rain.

 

The only time I break traction is right after it starts raining and over any kind of pavement marking paint lines, light stop bars or crosswalks. I drive a lot of times in the rain at higher than average speeds.

I would most certainly like them to have triple the amount of sipes but they are fine as is.

 

I agree, grip well around corners etc in wet conditions. Will break loose at take off but any tire will in any pick-up especially our light Tacoma's. No hydroplaning through puddles either

I just bought a set of Nitto Ridge Grappler 265 70 17 and I love them so far

Turns out it’s probable that the E and C rated tires are essentially the same tire carcass, just rated differently for legal purposes. Tire weight being the same for both makes more sense.

 

I've called them 3 times. Each time I am told the classification is only used to relate them to how it has always been done, so that is is familiar for people. I have been told each time that basically they lay the same amount of ply strands in each tire but just do it a different way to increase the sidewall strength on the E. I have been told the same forms and rubber compounds are being used no matter what.

At 37 (front) and 36 (rear) PSI my tires still run smooth as glass and are still not wearing all that much. I am getting ready to rotate them with my next oil change in 1k miles and will post up wear results. That will be over 22k miles on them.

 

My C range performed well on the rocks and in the snow when aired down this summer. I think I was down to 13-15 psi.

Same here. I’m pulling trigger, just got up the 3k for tires, lift kit, wheels, installation
One place told me, no problem 285/70R17 after 3” lift
Place 2 said go with 265sbon that lift or you’ll rub! Since place 1 guarantees the work with little diff in price on Fuel black trim bronze wheels in my blazing blue taco, I’m going with them.
Unless I can get one of them to throw in a good deal or a skid plate, bull bar, or dream-if-dreams a front winch bumper :/). No <—-that ain’t gonna happen. But comin off a Wrangler, & I still have tree straps, a kinetic rescue line, & plenty of D shackles, I wish I had capacity to pull myself out of a bind with a winch/&pulley set up. I used to be ready for bear. Now I’m tip toein’on the trails. I want to go out and break shit, catch some air, cut thru a creek with s snorkel attached, get it supercharged and make all four wheels leave a rubber patch. But. I’m 10k short for all that. I’m getting lift tires wheels! That’s IT unless I get eaten by a shark or win lottery (same odds & im a good swimmer) pictures follow before FEBRUARY, or my name’s Mud.

 

Yep! That’s what I need in my eyeholes right now! Something to shoot for; I’ll try to top it!
