Pinstripe removal need help asap!!!

im thinking about removing the pinstripe off of my 2006. its not the paint on kind its the sticker like kind. im not sure what to do and im afraid that after i remove it the paint will be faded. i need help and advice on doing it. will clay bar/polish/ wax remove the fade??? i took some off today but it dont look faded all that bad. what do i do now? when i was doing it the pinstripe kept snapping. what can i do to make removing easier??

 

Since it's a 2006 more than likely it will be faded a tad. What you can do is remove a small section of it that is less noticeable (ie. a piece right next to the edge of a door) and see if its faded.

If you decide to remove them, use a blowdryer or hairdryer and take your time. It is frustrating but in the end its worth it!

 

i removed mine last year and polished where the stripes were then clay barred the truck and waxed and you could barely see where it was if you looked hard. if you didnt know it was there you would never know. i used a hair drier to help get mine off. hope this helps!

 

well, i have removed a section off of the tailgate n its a lil bit faded but u have to really look for it...another member on here had his takin off of his 99 taco n said it was fine n that clay bar/polish/wax did the trick n his truck was black...btw my truck is parked in a car port all the time...still want the pinstripe off....i hate the gold!!!

 

Yeah you're right it would be the other way around.

 

Go for it then. Worst-case scenario, you decide its too faded, and buy a pin stripe kit for $10 and re-do it.

 

idk if this helps but i have the toyoguard plus pkg on my truck which includes the paint sealant but doesnt cover the pinstripe...so is that better???

I removed most of mine a while back and just recently bumped into a post. When I got my truck back from the bodyshop my pinstriping was back on . I guess they figured it came off on accident. lol.

ha ! you guys don't know pinstrip hell until you remove a 'double painted' pinstripe off a 10 year old audi !

 

the pinstripe on my truck is triple lined!!! 3 lines on each!!!

 

I did the same on my '05. This 3M pinstripe eraser wheel is probably the fastest and easiest way I have found that will get the pinstripes off. Hook it up to a drill and the eraser will take the stripes off the whole truck in within 20 mins. Doesn't harm the paint and it also reduces the fadeness of the paint if you go over the area a few times after the pinstripes are removed..

 

ahh yes but was it "painted" on with paint over a decade old ?

A heat gun takes pinstripe right off, then buff it with some clearcoat polishing compound, then wax. Looks perfect.

Auto parts store. Bought mine at O-Reilly's, about $35 but well worth it. Mine was not painted on and worked great. Also will take the leftover goo off too.
