That's only 24 stones. You've got another 585K to go.

False. It's not just the engine that breaks in all the other moving components like the gears of a differential do break in there is a special coating that's put on gears which is why the oil will have a slight silverish tint to it the first time you change it just like if you were to get it re geared from a shop. Same as with the transmission the first time you drop the pan your magnet will have more metal from the initial break in.

Please don't take this the wrong way but are you retarded? The last thing you want is break-in material left in a component for a long period. Once the initial break-in happens then I agree going what the manufacturer says to a point. Having that floating around in there is actually causing more wear if it's not changed soon enough.

In all reality this thread means nothing lol

I change my oils after any hardcore wheeling because I want to know, mainly, if there’s been water in my diffs. What you see on your plug is basically polishing dust from your ring and pinion.

Edit: change your oils as you see fit, within the manufacturers intervals.

From what i have read is ALL the fluids are synthetic oil's, diff/trans-axle/transmission/engine/ so if your changing them to "go" synthetic there done for you.
But i did change my engine at 5K and diff and 4x4 cases at 8K .

Just use some common sense, if your hard on it change it. In the old days they had you change the oil every 1500 miles,

SO when are people changing there Power steering and Brake fluid ? so we all can hear " i only use AMSOIL or royal purple or _____ " so it will last 700K miles ..... time to start a new thread .....
also my truck will rust to death before the engine dies. its just where i live..
    .

    :blahblah: :santa:

So you're saying the oem diff fill is synthetic gear oil? I'm surprised to hear that. Do you have a link that suggests that?
I wouldn't have dumped mine at the 5k service if I had known that.

Edit: Nevermind. Looks like you're right. I searched the part number with "synthetic" and there are several references...

No XOM for me. Very overrated oil. I stick with the Castrol.
