UPDATE: Good news! My friend contacted his insurance company and they assessed the damaged at about $2,700. His insurance company is going to pay to fix the damage, and his rates will not go up.

Sometimes I think that Zen Den is one of the most in-your-face establishments around with regards to rules...

Upon approaching the front door, you are greeted by a sign that says:

"Restrooms and wifi for customers only, no outside food or drink, $5 credit card minimum, no soliciting."

To be fair, I understand the last one...

Go inside and sit down, and you are greeted with a sign at each table that says "Please bus your own table."

I would like to point out that Zen Den's credit card minimum used to be $10, and I once angrily stormed out when I rang up an order of like $8.34 and the woman had the nerve to suggest that I buy more to get my bill at or above $10. I had no cash on me and I wasn't about to use their ATM and pay the surcharge, so I left...

Only time I ever go into Zen Den is to order stuff for coworkers at Puck.

There's also this Celtic art place right next to the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope that has signs out front prohibiting photography inside the building and requires customers to ask permission to take out their phones and send text messages!

 

I work at a detail shop and one of the many perks is getting to use the facility to to detail my own vehicle on my days off. I took my Taco there today and gave it a good cleaning.

A couple of my coworkers are working at the detail shop while they go to vocational school to become auto body techs.

One of these guys, who drives a late 1990s Honda Civic with over 200K miles, says that Civics are the only vehicles that will truly last forever, and that my truck will be ready for the junkyard at 150K (I've got a little over 91K now). I like this guy, but I think he's full of shit.

My truck had a bit of bodywork done back in 2015 (entire left rear fender replaced) when a drunk driver hit me. My coworkers also like to use their auto body expertise to bust my balls and point out how obvious it is to them that my truck has been painted.

 

They will go 300k with no issues.

 

To put it this way, the engine/trans will outlive the frame 90% of the time depending on where you live.

 

My 99 has 600k when I crashed it. If you really feel like it’s junk at 150k I’ll give you the 200 bucks a junkyard will give you for it

 

I saw a YouTube video featuring a '96 with about 600K on the clock.

I wonder if, in theory, a 2.7L block in a 2nd Gen can last that long?

 

I don't; My coworkers are biased young kids who mostly drive Hondas and BMWs...

The stereo in my truck alone is worth $600!

My bosses early 2nd Gen has 400k+ and no issues. A great deal of people here are North of 200k.

 

My 98 Tacoma (4cyl single cab 4x4) just died one day at 158k miles. I took it in to my mechanic and he said it had lost compression in 3 of 4 cylinders.

I attribute it to how hard and fast I ran that little 4 banger on extended trips. I probably put 12k miles a year on that thing running it at 75-80mph on the interstate. Had I simply driven it around town with the occasional trip, I think it would have lasted a lot longer. I didn't abuse it. I just don't think it was up to the task of so many miles at interstate speeds. I essentially "wore it out".

 

first plug change at 190,000 and it was running just fine. Don't listen to what people say.

 

3.5 to 4 months I hear.

 

I've got a 2006 with a v6 and it ran 238 thousand miles before the head gasket blew. I had just gotten a new frame and decided to drop a used motor in it. I am at 295 k now

 

I got an '06 with 195K on it, still going strong. Hope she makes it to 600K one day

 

Really? I do a fair amount of highway driving (probably 5,000 miles a year; I over 12,000 miles on my truck combined this year), and my truck runs just as smoothly as the day I brought her home. About the only thing I've had to do to the engine aside from oil and fluid chances is replace a belt!

 

Usually the stop and go traffic is harder on the engine. On the highway it's just cruising at a steady pace. It uses less fuel to keep a constant speed than to accelerate and decelerate all the time. Opinions?

 

depends. ball joints and consumable parts will need to be replaced eventually, tranny will probably shit the bed before the 1gr does, frame might rust out at somepoint and need to be replaced. hard to say

I wheel it. Tow with it. Road trip in it. Skip maintenance here and there because life gets in the way sometimes and I’ve been on 35s a couple years now with stock gears.
